Not What I Was Hoping For2
This cross stitch book was highly recommended on many websites as one of the best books for stocking patterns. In fact, many people were trying hard to find this "out of print" book and called it a great addition to any cross stitch library. Some stitchers also stated it was one of the few books that actually had Christian stockings, which is what I am looking for. Therefore, I was very excited to find the book both brand new and under five dollars... BUT, even though the book came in great condition for a great price, I was disappointed by the patterns and I wish I had not bought it.

The majority of the patterns were boxy with no half-stitches or blending of colors for better shading and most of the stockings were of Santas, which was not what I was looking for. The patterns for poinsettia, holly, Childhood pleasures stocking (a child reading a book by the Christmas tree), and the Father Christmas stocking had the best detail and realism.

In regards, to "Christian" themes there was an angel stocking, the Joy to the World stocking from the front cover, and a stocking of the nativity. The nativity was a big disappointment to me as it was done in a color scheme more fitting of Easter than Christmas and frankly it needs to be completely recolored. Besides, to meet my personal taste, the patterns need half stitches added to reduce their boxy texture.

Overall, this book is not for advanced stitchers, unless they enjoy the challenge of editing patterns to meet their personal tastes OR find charm in leaving cross stitch a little boxy. YET, I would recommend this book to anyone who is at an intermediate to beginning level and just wants to make some Christmas stockings ;-) I am sure with the variety of Santa patterns and the other stocking options that anyone can find something to stitch.

As for myself, I will continue to look for Christian themed stockings that meet my very picky tastes. Until my next review, have fun stitching everyone = )

Christmas stocking cross stitch patterns4
There were many patterns to choose from that were varied and very attractive; and therefore somewhat challenging. The hardest part was I needed the stocking I chose to "face" the opposite direction, so I had to mentally reverse the pattern. But even with that, still reasonable to complete. Would not recommend for a beginner.

Love this book - and the entire Christmas Remembered series!5
The designs in this book are simply amazing. I love the way you can see a full color picture of the finished product at the beginning of the book, and the reference to the charts at the back. I would only recommend this book to an advanced stitcher because of the incredibly detailed charts. In addition, the charts are in color and don't copy over very well into a black and white working copy, so if you are used to having working copy that you can put reminder marks on, this may not be the book for you.
