Customer Reviews

Well done; most enjoyable!5
As an artist well-versed in bead-media from beading leather to stitching on frame, as well as cornaly needle work, I give an excellent rating to Mr. Levy's "Bead and Sequin Embroidery Stitches". His full-color, well-illustrated guidance for stitching beads and sequins on fabric is clearly stated with images supporting the wonderful variety of illusion possible with basic stitches. The many worked samples are a significant boon to advancing one's understanding of the properties (color and reflection) of beads and sequins on fabric - an aspect not often mentioned, but every beadworker (who ever had to tear out a line stitched against the grain) needs to learn. The book also includes delightful examples from Mr. Levy's students. This experienced beader enjoyed the book very much, and found both tips and inspiration. How well is it for a beginner? The text is straightforward and easy reading. The stitches are very well explained and have photographs and sampler examples. The rest depends on the reader: Levy explains his system, presents the path (and a materials list) to work his directions; it's up the budding bead artist to jump in and stitch!

When you want somebody to draw you a picture...4
When you want somebody to draw you a picture of exactly HOW the beads, sequins, and stitches go together, this is the book for you. It's full of excellent drawn diagrams showing the angles and spacing to use to achieve different effects, and there are great photographs of beautiful final products. I only wish there had been a little more discussion on how the fabric you are embellishing affects the design and method.

I'm beginning to understand why I bought this book. It works for me and it made my designs look great than before.. of course I have not explore all of it. The beginning of this book is all it takes for a wonderful adventure for me. Recommended.
