Customer Reviews
Easy to use & I knitted a nice tube scarf in less than 30 minutes!
I normally knit by hand & bought this just for fun & because I was curious. After Christmas, I spent a little time setting it up & had no trouble at all. You just need to read the directions very carefully & look closely at the illustrations. Everything you need is there.
In just a few minutes I was knitting away! I found that the eyelash yarn (which was included) worked very well & I look forward to trying other types (the instructions say to use even, smooth yarns, not lumpy). I made a nice tube scarf in less than 30 minutes. The key is consistently turning the crank at a slow to moderate pace & making sure the yarn is pulling smoothly out of the ball. When you change colors or add another ball of yarn, help the knot through the tension device or it will get stuck.
I did not first form the yarn into balls (as recommended in the instructions). The yarn is already formed into pull skeins and was feeding smoothly, so I just pulled out a yard or so at a time as I was knitting.
Not once did a stitch drop. You do need to fairly often pull down gently on the tube and untwist it a bit as you knit.
I took the scarf off of the machine and cast it off by hand using double pointed needles (instead of the method described in the instructions) simply because I know that method already, I wanted to finish up the scarf, and it was getting late. Next time I'll try it their way.
I highly recommend this little knitting machine. It's easy to use and certainly produces nice results quickly, especially when compared to hand knitting. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I think there should be more project ideas and photos using other yarns included with the kntting machine.
Not for Children, Not Built to Last
My daughter received this and immediately loved it. When it broke, we went and got another one for her (exchange), but t never worked right. We tried to figure out the problem with, attempted to contact the manufacturer, but was not successful. The store told us that they couldn't exchange it again because all of the one's they had were already exchanged. She's completely heartbroken. Cheap working parts. She was very patient with it, but it just isn't made to last. A wonderful idea for a toy, but not a very good product.
9 Year Old Loves It!
This definitely rates as a "10" on the Christmas gift list. My daughter - who is not so crafty - was able to knit a tube scarf in less than an hour. There were some dropped stitches, but I think it was more due to user error or inattention than from the machine.
My daughter followed the instructions exactly as was spelled out (directions are very clear and easy to follow), and she had no problems with the set up. We've been having a little challenge with the flat panel, but again, I think it's because my daughter takes a lot of breaks and can't remember if she was turning clockwise or counterclockwise.
My biggest tip to share is to work slowly so you can watch the machine as it picks up each stitch. There were a few times that the yarn didn't catch, but all you have to do is push the yarn into the hook. I'd expect more if it were a professional machine, but it isn't. The knitting machine is made of plastic and will not last indefinitely, but hey, for a child's toy, it's great for the price.
It's a great confidence builder because she can make something, in a relatively short time, that she can wear. Plus with the eyelash yarn, it is very forgiving on any human error defects.
