Sometimes metal needles are too slippery and heavy, especially with larger knitting projects. Bamboo is lighter and takes care of the slipping problem. I own a few dozen bamboo needles, and the best, by far, are the Clovers. The shafts are more durable, smooth to begin with and growing smoother with use, and the points are rounded yet fine enough to avoid splitting the yarn. I have an entire set of Clovers, and use them often, and have never had one break or develop slivers. I wouldn't buy any other brand.
