Heralding archetypal elements of traditional Tarot, The Gilded Tarot is teeming with shimmering, classic imagery. High priestesses in flowing robes, wise emperors, knights on majestic steeds, mystics wielding magical tools, and other intriguing characters from medieval times abound in the Major and Minor Arcana. This richly coloured, easy-to-use deck also features standard symbols for the card suits swords, cups, wands, and pentacles which provide universal appeal.

Gilded Pleasure
After perusing the web, reading several reviews and seeing samples of the art, this deck made it to the top of my wishlist for new decks to add to my collection. This deck is even more impressive in person. Artistically, it is beautifully done. The Majors could stand to portray (a little more) archetypal depth, but it is hard to say anything less positive about this deck. The artist definitely succeeded with the jewel tones, stained glass and more traditional effects where decks like the Art Nouveau (Yuppie) Tarot fell short. Bravo!
Got to love it!
This is so far my favorite deck of those I own! I love the images and the well perserved symbology. He have stayed with the RWS symbology very well, but still managed to make it his own! This makes it very easy to read with both for the novice as well as the more advanced. The size is smaller than most decks, which is good for those with smaller hands!
The drawback with this deck though is the somewhat fragile quality. Mine allready have some tears in some of its edges :-(
NOT REALLY GILDED BUT STILL INSPIRING
This is a deck that has been at the top of the popularity list since it was published. An original limited edition set was available for a very high price, compared to most decks, and perhaps that might have been gilded. I would love to have seen it but I believe it is unavailable. This deck for general distribution was disappointing to me because the "gilded" golden accents are not really a gilded metalic foil finish that is possible in printing, but rather a printed gold ink. As an artist and jewelery designer, I bought the deck because of the "gilded" promise.
Other than that disappointment, the rest of the deck is very beautiful...the paintings and images are lovely, the colors are rich, the symbolism is traditionally accurate and given all these things I would still recommend the deck. The book with it is well done and the deck is also a good one for beginners since it is based on the traditional tarot system. I have many decks that I use in my personal life and in my profession as a counselor and teacher and this is one of the best. The Sacred Circle Tarot is still my favorite, however...Amazon sells that one too.
In choosing a deck, one should pick the deck that strikes a chord emotionally and energetically as each individual person will be drawn to different representations of the tarot. Beginners should choose a traditional deck as there are many out there that are spinoffs that can be confusing until the basics of tarot are understood. Traditional decks can be older versions like the Rider Waite or newer versions like the Gilded Tarot. If you deepen into using the gift of tarot in your life, then all kinds of decks can be fun and enlightening to own. I have over 30. When I look through them all from time to time I am reminded of where I was on my life's journey at the time I chose each one...they can be like a journal of life themes. Whether this is your first tarot deck or an addition to your collection I highly recommend it.
