From the Publisher
Having grown up on Jimmy Buffett's songs in the '70s, especially Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise, I read with interest his first book "Tales from Margaritaville". Not surprisingly, it had the same wonderful style and spirit of his songs--funny, original, free-spirited. It seemed to me that Jimmy Buffett was truly living--and chronicling-- the American Dream. But what I found most interesting was a story I heard during one of his first bookstore signings (in Virginia or Georgia, I think). The day of the book-signing, hundreds and hundreds of people showed up and the line snaked around several blocks. But what was truly interesting was the mix of people--teenagers, aging hippies, moms and dads, blue-haired old ladies--all proud to call themselves "Parrotheads". Buffett's new book "A Pirate Looks at Fifty" is currently a bestseller proving that Jimmy Buffett's appeal is as timeless as he is.

From the Inside Flap
"Entertaining...The whole volume is a tribue to Buffett's storytelling skills and his essentially sunny, manana-influenced worldview."
THE HOUSTON POST
Just where is Margaritaville, anyway? It's not on a map, that's for sure. But it does exist, in the brilliantly creative imagination of singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. TALES FROM MARGARITAVILLE is a collection so vividly packed with restless dreamers, wild wanderers, and pure gypsy souls that just reading it is an adventure itself.
About the Author
Singer/songwriter/author Jimmy Buffett has become a legend of popular culture as the composer of such classic songs as "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise." He has recorded more than thirty albums, most of which have gone gold, platinum, or multiplatinum. His sold-out concert tours are an annual rite of summer for his fans, affectionately known as Parrotheads, who dress in outrageous tropical outfits and headwear.
Buffett collaborated with Pulitzer prize-winning author Herman Wouk on an award-winning musical adaptation of Wouk's novel Don't Stop the Carnival. Buffett is also one of only six authors who have had #1 New York Times bestsellers in both fiction (Where is Joe Merchant?) and nonfiction (A Pirate Looks at Fifty). The other five authors who share this distinction are Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Styron, Irving Wallace, and Dr. Seuss.

Sheer Vacation Fun
I am a high school English teacher, so I spend the year functioning on a high literary level, teaching the kids to see and understand metaphor and imagery. I read this this book over the summer, and, like Buffet's others, it has imagery and metaphor. The difference is that the book is sheer fun to read. Buffet pulls you away on a Caribbean holiday. While reading Margaritaville, I longed for island vacations I've enjoyed. As the man wrote, I wish I was sailing again.

Buffett, Always entertaining and feel good
if you are expecting deep thoughts and thoughtful prose, close the cover! Jimmy breathes his homespun, key-lime pie and cool breeze style to a cast of delightful characters and enchanting settings. Fun to read!
fantastic story teller
Jimmy Buffett is a fantastic story teller and I love his books and songs. He is a complete entertainer, I haven't yet seen any of his concerts due to they a very pricey. The price is usually a lot out of my price range but I have a lot of his tapes and CDS. I have a cassette deck in two vehicles and a CD player in the other, so I have his music in two forms.
