![]() | The Prisoner of Guantanamo by Dan Fesperman
Buy used from: $0.10 I recently finished the book and on a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a 7 for holding my attention. It is well written, but I had to work hard to follow the plot at numerous points. A fictional story about an FBI agent, his love interest, a dubious friend and a Cuban angle are woven together in a very weird way and I didn't believe the ending.

![]() | Song of the Cuckoo Bird: A Novel by Amulya Malladi
Buy new: $11.86 / Used from: $0.64 This book is about a motley collection of women who end up in an ashram under a dubious guru who is conflicted but nevertheless revered by her patrons. It's a saga without surprises or climactic ends and it failed to impress me.

![]() | Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan
Buy new: $15.80 / Used from: $0.01 This book is worth all the hype. It's lovable, it's entertaining, it's hard to put down and you don't have to be a dog owner.

![]() | Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit by Daniel Quinn
Buy new: $12.24 / Used from: $3.47 This is one of the books that marked a turning point in my existence and my understanding of the greater reality of being. It begins with an ad put forth in a paper by a gorilla. Read on only if you want a re-education of the human footprint on our planet.

![]() | A Language Older Than Words by Derrick Jensen
Buy new: $13.60 / Used from: $9.43 I picked up this book and couldn't read it at the first go and then I guess the time was right and I couldn't put it down. Similar in vein in my mind to Ishmael, I regard this as literature that forces you to look beyond the box we built for ourselves and see that we're part of an organic being/entity we must engage to protect.

![]() | Serving Crazy with Curry by Amulya Malladi
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $1.09 I picked this book up from an Amazon recommendation. I can say that I may go back and get it for a couple of recipes. It's unfortunately not outstanding, but is better written than most others by Indian/Indian American authors about Indian Americans. The book is more about troubled relationships, not so much about Indians in troubled relationships. The ending is not memorable.

![]() | Sacred Games: A Novel by Vikram Chandra
Buy new: $21.24 / Used from: $0.01 I'm almost finished with this book and I am willing to sign my name to any fan list proclaimed by the author. His imagination keeps you up well past your bedtime and defies your expectations. The plot meanders but never bores and a rich world leaps out from the pages and draws you in. I experience a profound sense of loss each time I finish his books.
