Japanese Death - Metal
It seems strange to me, for a Japanese sextet to be playing European Death-metal, but if you just listened to the CD and didn't know they were Japanese, you would probably think they were some up and coming Scandinavian symphonic, black-metal group
I have broke this review into two parts, the music and the vocals. The music is very good melodic, symphonic metal both well played and innovative. The vocals are another matter however. I admit that I don't care for the Growling that often passes for vocals in this genre, but with some groups such as TSOTB and Haggard I am able to ignore it, maybe because the growling is countered by pretty female voices or even choirs. With Tyrant though, there is no such relief. I'm also able to accept it in the case of some groups such as Samael and Nicodemus because it seems to fit their music. This is not the case with Tyrant. The growling on Legend is both excessive and irritating and, in my opinion, does not fit the music.
Accordingly, since the music is 5 stars and the vocals are 2 stars the average is between 3 and 4 stars.
despite my mediocre rating I feel I can recommend this album with reservations. The album is definitly interesting and if you like or tolerate growling, go for it. Otherwise try to hear a track or two.
