Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Belgian grinders LENG TCH'E drop the hammer with their new full-length Marasmus. A heavier and more measured bludgeoning than previous records, Marasmus sees the band incorporating more pronounced death metal riffage to their pummeling grind assault. Marasmus finds LENG TCH'E maximizing their already lethal damage per square riff ratio with a more deliberate sense of pace. An absolute blinder of a full-length, Marasmus puts LENG TCH'E squarely at the forefront of the modern extreme scene.

Gem that got lost in the shuffle5
A lot of great albums came out in 2007 (namely, the mighty Pig Destroyer's "Phantom Limb", which topped best-of lists everywhere). So it's sad to see a great album like this one just go unnoticed by a lot of people. Maybe it's because American grindcore has a bad reputation with a lot of grind fans, which affected their opinions of this album, or maybe it's because it's too interesting for fans of American grindcore's idiotic style. Either way, this is a really solid release that will be enjoyed by most.

I've got to start out with the thing that stood out the most, for me. The production is flawless. People throw around the term "wall of noise" a lot, but this is one of the few albums I've ever heard that actually lived up to the term. Something about this album hits so hard, it's like a massive thump on the back, rattling your organs around. Absolutely perfect for this style of music.

Speaking of the music: if you don't normally like grindcore, give this album a shot, anyway. It's vastly different from what most people think of as grindcore (this is European grindcore, not the American stuff) and is more like a blend of grind and death metal. The songs are interesting and complex, clocking in at the easily digestible times of one to three minutes. The vocalist possesses a variety of talents not often found in metal vocalists; he's got great range (everything from grunts to shrieks are handled expertly) that helps keep the music interesting. The lyrics are politically tinged and way more intelligent than your stereotypical metal lyrics, which really beefs up the content of the songs.

This album was overlooked by most, but it's definitely worth a listen and I suggest it to everyone I possibly can.

Cheers for the great album. The bass player is a whizz and from the band photos is a huge brutal viking! You cant go wrong with such 5 string wizardry combined with being a goliath of a viking that would storm your village and take all your women! He would most likely eat your babies aswell. Listen to Leng Tche and you can almost hear him crushing the weak under foot. All HAIL Leng Tche's technogoliath of a bass player!!!
