"Applause Cheer Boo Hiss is a seven-song punch to the gut...'Speak to Me Bones' is their riot grrrl anthem-in-the-making."
About the Artist
There is more than just "talk" surrounding the Montreal-based, femalefronted guitar rock juggernaut Land of Talk. Influences include early PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr. Applause Cheer Boo Hiss was released in Canada on Maple, where they toured with the Dears, Fiery Furnaces and the Stills, and caught the ears of U.S. press. Paste raves, "There currently seems to be two camps of people out there in the world - those who have never heard of Montreal buzz band Land of Talk, and those who absolutely adore the group".

Garage Rock Near-Masterpiece
This is one of my favorite albums. A friend got me into this band a few months ago, and I ignored them until the song All My Friends came up on my shuffle. I was obsessed with it, and hesitant to listen to the other six songs because I was sure that they could not be as good as the one I'd already heard. That was not the case.
Land of Talk is a straight-up garage band, but with enough pop influence to be listenable as all hell. Doubling as the frontwoman, guitarist Liz Powell gives the band an energy that's impossible to ignore. Even on the downtempo tracks, there's a gritty sweetness to her voice that captivates. There's no way to describe this album adequately to someone who hasn't heard it. Get it as soon as you can.
Excellent indie guitar rock record with great vocals
I just love this ep. I buy in to the Sonic Youth -PJ Harvey - Dinosaur Jr. comparisons. That's why it has its own fresh sound. I also think of The Reputation and Sarge. I usually have a lot to say about why I love a record. This one just stays in my rotation and I find it deeper with each listen. Go out and get it. I have the feeling that this record is only the beginning.....
