Editorial Reviews

Review
Since his 2006 debut release More Africa In Us, eccodek (aka Andrew McPherson) has kept busy remixing one of his own tracks for National Geographic s GeoRemix series in addition to reinterpreting a song by Malian music s heir apparent, Vieux Farka Toure (son of the late legend, Ali Farka Toure). Both works are included as bonus tracks on Voices Have Eyes, eccodek s widely anticipated sophomore release. Voices Have Eyes features the seductive beauty of Juno Award-winning Indian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia, the mesmerising talent of Malian kora master Mansa Sissoko, the raw power of Fijian vocalist Akuila Sumi and the tribal meltdown of Fiji's Savusavu Choir. Nigeria s Bamidele Bajowa and Ignace Ntirushwamaboko of Rwanda round out the list of global voices heard on the record. Of course, eccodek s signature bone-rattling bass, spaced out production, hypnotizing grooves and soaring exotic melodies are all present here as well. Billed by the Boston Globe as a sonic architect, eccodek continues to expand on the global groove and dub palate shaped by such innovators as African Head Charge, Bill Laswell and Mad Professor, and adds to his growing reputation as a master studio wizard on the level of such DJ scientists as Karsh Kale, Cheb i Sabbah and Nortec Collective (fellow participants in the GeoRemix and Toure projects). As the tracks flow from this talented artist, it is becoming increasingly apparent that eccodek reveals the face of global music. --Global Rhythm
