Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Celebrated australian musician, Mick Harvey returns with his enthralling new album, 'two of diamonds'. Encouraged by the very positive critical acclaim and the audience reaction to the live shows for his 2005 lp 'one man's treasure', harvey - an internationally renowned arranger, producer, multi instrumentalist, film soundtrack composer and co-founder of the birthday party and nick cave and the bad seeds - has created a further wonderful collection of classic songs. This time harvey is accompanied by his solo band, featuring rosie westbrook (double bass) and fellow bad seeds' james johnston (organ and guitar) and thomas wydler (drums). Guest musicians on two tracks also include rob ellis from p.j. harvey's band (piano/drums), and julitha ryan (piano) from melbourne instrumental band silver ray.
Customer Reviews
Good, not great
I bought the Mick Harvey CD after hearing "Out of Time" at the end of a Breaking Bad episode. Out of time is a solid tune and I would say there are about four other solid tunes on the CD, but there are a number of throw aways. It's worth getting for the gems, but this is not a CD that I'm raving about.
Dark, and beautiful...
Look, this is Mick Harvey: a Bad Seed and God's own right hand man... you can't go wrong with any of his solo albums! This set of (mostly) covers is certainly more accessible than his soundtrack stuff and, although it may lack the immediacy of almost any Nick Cave release, it retains thoughtful, intelligent and dark considerations for your aural enjoyment. Standouts include Everything Is Fixed (Triffids), Photograph (Saints) and Sad Dark Eyes (Loved Ones/Die Haut... depending on the road that brought you here). Buy it, you won't be sorry... and then get One Man's Treasure!
