Editorial Reviews

Album Description
2007 release from the Swedish Death Metal band, their fifth studio concoction to date. The band openly encourage their fans and listeners to commit suicide or other acts of violence against themselves. Original vocalist Niklas Kvarforth left the band in 2006 and handpicked his own replacement Ghoul (who is actually Kvarforth under a different name).

something different5
I bought this Shining CD over the weekend and cannot stop playing it. It starts out quietly and progresses to a more aggressive sound with Opethian breakdowns. The singer sounds like Attlia Csihar (Mayhem, Aborym) at times very gutteral and making strange sounds with his voice. At other times he has a crooning voice and a yell that sounds very reminiscent of Nattefrost(Carpathian Forest). I swear at one point in this song he reminds me of an old American comic actor Bobcat Goldthwait. There are six songs on this CD, no filler. It plays out to a decent length. Songs two and three remind me a bit of Carpathian Forest, but this band has totally a sound of their own. Song four is a heavy metal song. The riff reminds me of Metallica's "One". There are guitar solos! The next song is Piano only and It is a classical piece (Beetovan?).This CD has elements of Ambient, Metal, Black Metal, Progressive Metal..... eveything. And it all gels together nicely. Highly recommended for fans of Agalloch, Carpathian Forest, Immortal, Opeth etc...

cannot stop listening to this thing. 5
this album is one of the best i've bought in years. unusual song structures. perfect solos. lots of feeling in this thing.

vocals are pretty weird and take some getting used to. but give em a minute and they are perfect.

5 stars!
