Customer Reviews
Merci Beaucoup for a Winters Face
This CD is quite good and I have had it in my car CD player for almost a month now. I am getting to know these songs and like what I hear. All but one of the songs was written by Michel St-Pere including lyrics and he played all the guitar and keyboard parts, so I am not sure if this is a band or a solo effort. The production values are excellent and turned up really loud is the only way to listen to this CD.
Only one song stands out for me as different than anything I have heard before and that is "As I Am" the first track, the song makes an attempt to sound like YES and does emulate them very well, however most of the songs are a bit tempered to the ideas of Rush with a bit of Trevor Rabin mixed in, not a bad thing. So for a somewhat fresh take on prog rock, you will not waste your money, however much of the music you will have heard before.
I think there is enough talent here to break some new ground if they can breakout of the prog rock mold and create some new ideas. My best to Mystery, I would like to experience them doing theme's of a lighter note and perhaps head south to record next time in a sunny location.
Progressive Rock that has it all.
There are a few cuts on this album that could be prog rock classics - The Sailor and the Mermaid has all the elements I look for in prog rock...symphonic development, rock sensibilities, a drop dead, OMG hook and a great story that actually makes sense. Other standouts are the title song and Awakening. If you like progressive/art rock you should give this one a listen. Some of it will remind you of ELP or early Crimson and one or two songs will make you say ---YES.
Masterpiece album
This is quite simply one of the best albums I have bought in the last 30 years . All areas of this album are top notch from production to playing to song writing. I do not have one fault with this album. Each and every song on here is better than the next. Melodic with muscle. Highly recommended.
