Arch Enemy a band that keeps getting better and better.
I've been a fan of Arch Enemy for several years now and have even seen them in concert and have gotten an autographed cd from them that is Angela era Arch Enemy I'm talking about.

It's been two years since Arch Enemy released their album "Doomsday Machine". It was an album, which I thought was very good but was just missing something in the vocal department. It was very good musically the guitars, bass and drums were all tight and cohesive, but the vocals were lacking in a few spots.now with that said could Arch Enemy come back and make the killer album that fans have been waiting for. The answer is yes and that album is called "Rise Of The Tyrant".

Blood On Your Hands
This song begins with an air raid siren and that is a good indication of what is to come. The band gives you no time to cover as musically they deliver a full frontal assault. It's focused, ferocious and a lot of fun. Michael and Christopher Amott supply stunning guitar solos and also wonderful melodic harmonies. As an opening track "Blood On Your Hands" is a great statement of intent.

The Last Enemy
This song picks up the where the last one left off and keeps going. With enough levels of speedy drumming and guitar riffing to keep everyone happy. Once again we get great neo-classical guitar solos, which will stun you in musically for being so good.

I Will Live Again
This song takes the tempo down a bit to create magnificent riffs that seem as though drunk. The song is littered with dark melodies and is dramatic in its delivery.

In This Shallow Grave
This song is aggressive, abrasive and unsettling. It barrels down the tracks into its own world. The guitar solo towards the end of the song is just phenomenal and shows what years of practicing and honing ones skill can do.

Revolution Begins
This song sees them pulling in their extreme metal style and giving us a rocker in the way that only Arch Enemy could deliver. This song gives Angela's vocals room to shine and are for the most part the focal point of the song and as a result we get to hear them at their best.

Rise Of The Tyrant
This song begins with some spoken words. Then Arch Enemy goes into what think is dark metal and they attempt to drag you the listener down with them. The guitars crunch along and wail and drums pound everything in their way.

The Day You Died
This song is melodic and catchy and boasts some great moving guitar solos.

Intermezzo Liberté
This song is a very special instrumental demonstrating the melodic guitar playing of Michael and Christopher. It has a wonderful European sound and with the slightly cocked wah guitar pedal on the guitars it reminds me of something that Yngwie Malmsteen could do.

Night Falls Fast
This song moves along with menace and a sense of urgency. This song has some really cool rhythmic changes that keep you on your toes the whole time.

The Great Darkness
This song starts off with some chanting and sees the band digging deep and delivering some unholy guitar riffs and melodies. The chanting adds to the atmosphere and bring another level to the bands sound that really suits their music. The song changes direction partway through and then there is some very melodic and exciting guitar soloing. This song is very dramatic.

Vultures
This song sees the band playing some very good speed metal. This song is not for the weak of heart and when the band takes the aggression down towards the end you get a chance to recover. The song ends with an nice but short piano solo.

Rise of the Tyrant is one of those albums that grabs you from beginning to end and never lets go until the last note is played. This is an album that I can't recommend enough.

Better than Doomsday Machine!
Arch Enemy has been getting better and better with each release so far, most apparently since Anthems of Rebellion. Rise of the Tyrant certainly is no exception and with this release you can expect an even more refined, powerful sound than before. Absolutely every song is a metallic masterpiece in and of itself, but like in every other album, some shine more than others. For example, the album opener, "Blood On Your Hands", is one of Arch Enemy's greatest songs. The brilliance of other songs, such as "I Will Live Again", "The Day You Died", and "Vultures" cannot be denied either. Unfortunately there is just one instrumental, "Intermezzo Liberte", but the awesome guitarwork in it and throughout the album should make up for it. Overall, I'd have to say Rise of the Tyrant is Arch Enemy's strongest effort to date, and if you're a fan of metal at all, you MUST listen to it. It's that awesome, and even more so when listened to in one sitting. Buy it and you will be blown away.

Very good album, but their best?
Certainly not.

Arch Enemy has a great deal to offer and, while this album is a solid effort, it lacks a certain amount of enthusiasm showcased in their other material. For those looking to get into Arch Enemy, I'd start with something else. Consider Wages of Sin. If you're already a fan, though, this album is certainly worth having.
