Best Lizzy in awhile
Let's just say this...i've been a Lizzy fan since the "Give 'em the axe" era, i.e. i had it on vinyl. Now, of course, i'm not a psycho Lizzy fan like i used to be (i get on my "kicks" every now and then), but i always keep an eye on him, and was overly excited when "Devil" was put out (although i hated some of the mixes of the songs). This album is BY FAR the best album he's done since "Menace"(my personal fav), or "Visual Lies." If you ever were, or still are a Lizzy fan, BUY THIS ALBUM. Guitars are heavy, but melodic, dual solos at times, just like the old days-major shredding also. Double kick drums. Heavy, but not over the top. Also, it amazes me that Lizzy's voice STILL SOUNDS THE SAME !!!! Twenty years later and he's still kickin' a$$. Love ya brother. Keep the albums coming.
Lizzy is back!
Lizzy's voice is as good as ever and most of the songs on this CD are really good. Obviously having different guitar players changes the sound and on most of the songs if not for the vocals you would not be able to tell it's Lizzy Borden (that's not necessarily bad, it's just different). Joey Scott's drumming is incredible throughout the album.
The main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is unfortunately - in my opinion - the production is somewhat lacking. That's not Lizzy's fault, I'm sure the recording budget was a small fraction of what it was for Visual Lies or Master of Disguise.
For any fans of Lizzy or the genre, this is definitely a CD that is worth picking up. Lizzy is still one of the greatest metal vocalists ever.
Heavy And Dark
I've been anxiously awaiting this follow up to Lizzy Borden's 'Deal With The Devil' CD, and I was very impressed with the entire concept of the songs for 'Appointment With Death'. All the songs are heavy and I love Lizzy's vocal range. It's a little different from his past recordings, but it still is definately Lizzy Borden. I noticed that he did some over sampling with some songs like he did with 'Master Of Disguise', but he keeps everything fresh.
Bottom line: If you're a Lizzy Borden fan, go and buy this CD. You'll like it. If you don't you'll be making an Appointment With Death.
