Album Description
A lot has happened since the summer of 2005 when Animosity released their Black Market Activities debut Empires. The group has established themselves playing hundreds of shows in at least a dozen countries, sold 10,000+ CDs, garnered over a million plays on Myspace, and sold thousands of shirts. Musically, Animal shows an enormous progression from their prior releases. The band’s sound has become more distinct and refined. While stylistically the group has not changed drastically from their combination of thrash, hardcore and death metal, the growth in the actual quality of the musicianship is unbelievable. The album is completed by the production of Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City Studios and is beautifully illustrated by artist, Paul Romano (Mastodon, Trivium). Animal is a guitar riffer’s dream. The album is jam packed with Frank Costa’s Slash-like solos interspersed tastefully between the blasting and thrashing. Not to take anything away from the mind-blowing, wild, drum-stylings of Navene Koperweis or the jazz-fusion inspired bass licks of the band’s newest member, Evan Brewer who had previously done time in the progmetalcore band, Reflux.

Animal
Shut it down was impressive, Empires was amazing, and Animal is out of this world. Imagine Empires maturing to a whole new level, you get Animal. Amazing.
The archetype of a good "deathcore" album.
Animosity, while labeled as a deathcore band, are nothing like the other deathcore bands in the music scene. While bands like Emmure and Suicide Silence are identified by chugging on open strings and their breakdowns that sound like a parody of the originators, Animosity comes across as a cross between hardcore and 90's era death metal such as Death and Cryptopsy.
On Animal, the band separates them even further from the rest of the bands in the genre by making their influences even more present. "Terrorstorm" has riffs and vocals that sound like Human-Sound of Perseverance era Death. And "Operating From the Ditch" has a section that sounds like a homage of John Levasseur's guitar playing from None So Vile. The musicianship present on this album is tight as present on songs such as "You Can't Win" which sounds very technical and out of control at parts but at the same time very controlled.
The only problems with this album is that it is very short and not that diverse musically, so it can get old. Besides that, I easily recommend this to anybody who likes deathcore and hardcore.
I AM THE ANIMAL
Funny... They sound nothing like carnifex, whitechapel, or j.f.a.c! This cd (and Empires is straight grind. Shut it down was more mosh/groove influenced). Think, cattle decapitation, dying fetus, and some red chord. Album rules, a little more progressive than empires but it doesnt at all lack heaviness or intensity. it will kick your arse and leave u gasping for air before u realize what hit u! Definate must for death/grind fans... Album artwork is amazing also
