An Epic of True Proportions: 4.75 stars5
It is very hard to review this cd. Nothing like it has ever been done before. This cd is composed by Mick Barr, an underground guitar god. Annwn is purely instrumental, consisting of two electric guitars, and one heavily fuzzed out bass, all played by Barr. This cd is somewhat technical, however, most of Annwn consists of one droning guitar, while the more technical guitar plays over it. Even though Annwn is truly outstanding, there is one small flaw: it is 80 minutes long. And given that it is purely instrumental, and fairly repetitive, it is a daunting task to listen to in one sitting. However, it is still a phenomenal album.

Also check out Ocrilim's debut: Anoint, it is only 47 minutes and seems a little more focused. Long live Mick Barr.

Technique alone worth price of admission4
You have to be either incredibly skilled and brave or overconfident and stupid to attempt something like this album. Fortunately, Mick Barr fits squarely into the former two categories, so the album is a success. Even though the basic template is "instrumental shredfest over a bass so distorted you can't even pick out the notes it's playing and ridiculously repetitious second-guitar patterns", some parts are more than just interesting and jaw-droppingly complex, "Part 5" being an example.

Like the other reviewer noted, this is nearly a full disc's worth of what basically amounts to near-inhuman guitar technique, so if you're not into the experimental side of really fast metal guitar, approach with extreme caution. Fans should love it, though.
