Fierce melodic death metal
2008's The God of All Mistakes is the third album from Brazilian death metallers Eminence. You can hear elements of Pantera, Slayer, and (of course) Sepultura in the band's sound, but they're probably closer to bands like Hypocrisy and Kataklysm overall. They use lots of great Nevermore-ish thrash riffs, but there's also a decent amount of melody. The vocals are primarily harsh death metal style, but there are the occasional Soilwork-style clean vocals. This is an undeniably aggressive album, and one that had me banging my head from the very start.
This is my first Eminence CD, but it won't be my last. I love death metal that combines frenzied aggression, fierce attitude, and melodic aspects, and The God of All Mistakes definitely qualifies. Fans of Hypocrisy, In Flames, Soilwork, and Kataklysm - hell, extreme metal in general - should definitely check out Eminence.
