Customer Reviews
well-done
I first heard this album when it came out in november 2008. Their first album, akeldama, didn't really do anything for me but upon listening to planetary duality i was very open-minded.
This album's got a long-list of positives. First of all, it's a concept album. Everything from the lyrics to the overall atmosphere of the almost flows together. The main concept being, in my opinion, comparing today's socital ills to the global decimation of alien beings. Every line in every song is well thought out. Second, the guitar work is incredible. Everything from slow crushing riffs (beginning of sons of belial, end of planetary duality II: prophecie's fruition) to really progg-y/groovy riffs (xenochrist, the ancient covenant). Also, there are solos in every song, and none let up in their amazing-ness. The drumming is stupendous and is so is the bass. In summation, the instrumentation is this album is flawless. The production is crystal clear, and the vocals are sicker than i've ever heard.
The only real complaint i have about this album is that the drums are too loud and over shadow the guitar from time to time.
I'd recommend this to all death metal fans really, in my opinion the best release of 08 and 09 up to May 09.

The Faceless Does it again
When Akeldama first came out i was addicted to that album like crack its all i listened to and i was wondering how will the faceless top this album?
well planetary duality is nothing like akeldama but in same ways its kind of better how you may ask? well they got more technical and less deathcore which is a good sign because lets face it deathcore is over rated and there really isnt that many good deathcore bands other then all shall perish, the faceless, despised icon, beneath the massacre and Ion Dissonance
this album wont dissapoint any fans of this band but dont think its akeldama part 2 because its not, its a different faceless record. i really cant wait to see what this bands future is gonna be like
More Tech, Less Prog
When I first caught ear that The Faceless were releasing a new record I probably almost blacked out from pure excitement! Their first record Akeldama is still in regular rotation from when it was first released about 2 years ago. There was a lot going on with that record, with the breakdowns, melody, unexpected twists and turns and all the proginess that ensued.
With this record you get more of a straight forward style of 'Tech-Death', Which is definitely not a bad thing when done right, which is the case here. Most of the record is not the direction I thought the band was moving toward, but it is still worthy of a five star review in my book and the band actually raised the bar again regardless of the lack of prog incorporated into the record.
I still give this band props for originality and brutality. Maybe a few more listens and I will change my mind and find more proggy moments here and there.
