Paradise LostParadise Lost by Symphony X
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.94
Symphony X returns from a five year hiatus and deliver their heaviest and best record to date. This prog/power masterpiece has the intensity of death metal and is truely one of the best metal albums of all time!
PathosrayPathosray by Pathosray
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $12.23
Stunning debut from this Italian prog/power metal band!! Like Symphony X, a very intense and heavy album for this genre. Crushing riffs meld into well crafted songs done by top notch musicians. Kind of like a mix between Symphony X, Nevermore, and Dream Theater with a cool 70's vibe in the music's atmosphere.
Flies & LiesFlies & Lies by Raintime
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $5.25
Killer album with kind of a power/death metal mix. Great songwriting (listen to the chorus in 'Rolling Chances'!!!) Another awesome Italian band I just dicovered this year.
And the Rest Is SilenceAnd the Rest Is Silence by Empyrios
Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $7.99
Make it 3 for 3 for the Italian's! Empyrios play kind of a prog/thrash mix that is very exciting and original! Like their fellow country men, they posses the same element that many in the prog genre lack. A strong display of heaviness and aggression while not loosing any of the melody.
United AbominationsUnited Abominations by Megadeth
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.25
Megadeth is back with their 2nd great album in a row! Back to their thrash roots Dave and the Drover brothers take another step forward to the sound they once pioneered!!
Threads of LifeThreads of Life by Shadows Fall
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $1.99
Shadows Fall deliver another outstanding album. Almost as good as their previous masterpiece 'The War Within'. Like always, tons of killer solos and improved vocals by Brian Fair make this a highlight album for 2007!
Circus of FoolsCircus of Fools by Machine Men
Buy new: $14.97 / Used from: $8.69
Classic heavy metal! Staightforward and in your face. Heavy and very catchy, Machine Men flat out rock!!!
Become DeathBecome Death by Symphorce
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $4.99
Very aggressive power/thrash!! Andy Frank and Co deliver another great modern metal album! Just listen to tracks like 'Darkness Fills the Sky', Inside the Cast', and 'Trail of Tears'. Killer Stuff!!
DeadlockDeadlock by Manitou
Buy new: $28.99 / Used from: $12.57
Actually this should be the album 'No Signs of Wisdom' but Amazon does not list it so I had to picture last years album 'Deadlock' instead. Sorry for the confusion. Anyway this underated metal act once again delivers a top ten album. They get no promotion over here but if you are into straight up metal like Bruce Dickinson, Evergrey, and Tad Morose you must check these guys out!
Garden of ChaosGarden of Chaos by Rob Rock
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.99
Very impessive in your face metal album! Rob Rock pulls no frills here. Just great songwriting and huge hooks! Reminds me a lot of Bruce Dickinson's solo albums.
Sky Is the LimitSky Is the Limit by Evidence One
Buy new: $23.99 / Used from: $9.99
Really awesome hard rock/heavy metal. These guys are rooted in the 80's but they somehow sound so fresh and relavent today. Another band that just flat out rock!!
Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pt. I)Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pt. I) by Iced Earth
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.85
A nice comeback album from Iced Earth. This one took a while to grow on me. Though not anywhere near the awesomeness of the original Something Wicked album, it is a step in the right direction for the band.
Satanic CursesSatanic Curses by Mystic Prophecy
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $12.03
Like Symphorce, these guys just keep releasing high quality albums in that power/thrash style that fans of aggressive yet still melodic metal can appreciate.
Angel DownAngel Down by Sebastian Bach
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.47
Bach is back and singing better than ever! Good to see he has not gotten soft over the years. This one sits nicely along side with 'Slave to the Grind' and 'Subhuman Race'
PathwayPathway by Nostradameus
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $10.19
Great album from another very underated metal act. Nostradameus play sort of that power/thrash mix similar to Symphorce and Mystic Prophecy.
Personal CrisisPersonal Crisis by Steve Grimmett
Buy new: $43.98
The former lead vocalist from Grim Reaper returns with an outstanding solo album that's surprisingly modern and up to date. This album is chock full of well written traditional metal songs starting out with the very rocking 'Karma'
Revolution RisingRevolution Rising
Buy new: $36.49 / Used from: $14.99
Another great melodic metal album in vein of Rob Rock, Evidence One, and Steve Grimmett.
Road to BloodshedRoad to Bloodshed by Sanctity
Buy new: $17.98 / Used from: $1.95
Very good debut album of melodic thrash. These guys remind me a bit of Testament only a bit more melodic.
Rise of the TyrantRise of the Tyrant by Arch Enemy
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $5.96
Although a very good album, I was actually a bit disappointed with this album. It's a bit too 80's sounding (especially the trebly production) for Arch Enemy I think. I am probably in the minority on this though as this album has recieved great reviews overall. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high for some reason. Still recommended and worthy of a spot on my list.
AlphaAlpha by Sevendust
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $4.31
My sort of mainstream metal award would go to this album. Very good album from these guys. Sevendust and Disturbed are probably the only decent radio metal acts out there.
