By an Amazon.com customer
Rom 5:12Rom 5:12 by Marduk
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $10.96
My top release of 2007. If you like your Black Metal blistering fast and brutal as hell, then you will love this record. The vocal work on this one is breath taking.
Psalms of ExtinctionPsalms of Extinction by Pain
Buy new: $37.99 / Used from: $20.28
A great mix of Hard Rock and Industrial Metal. This one gets repeated spins on my Mp3 player.
Hell Is Empty, and All the Devils Are HereHell Is Empty, and All the Devils Are Here by Anaal Nathrakh
Buy new: $42.99 / Used from: $9.28
Chaos in its purest form. Hard to describe the sound on this record but one thing is for sure, it is pure evil!
Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical OvertureSlaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture by Aborted
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $2.93
My favorite Death Metal album of 2007. These guys are still just as heavy as they were on Goremageddon. Great Album!
Diabolicanos - Act III: ArmageddonDiabolicanos - Act III: Armageddon
Buy new: $8.91
Blackend Death Metal. If you have yet to listen to this record, I recommend you give it a shot. It will blow your mind.
Absorbing The DisarrayAbsorbing The Disarray by Visceral Bleedings
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $34.06
Technical Death Metal. This was one of them hidden gems that I discovered well into 2008. It is a must listen for any Death Metal fan.
Spiritual ApocalypseSpiritual Apocalypse by Monstrosity
Buy new: $22.99 / Used from: $9.16
I usually pefer the Swedish when it comes to my Death Metal but this American band created a great release.
XenosapienXenosapien by Cephalic Carnage
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $2.93
What a devestating release! Their material stands out more for me since they are not affraid to experiment. Most bands tend to stick to the same tricks over time, but not these guys.
Eater of BirdsEater of Birds by Cobalt
Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $11.49
This album has changed my negative outlook on the American Black Metal scene. This is one hell of an record. Most American Black Metal bands stick to the more atmospherical or depressive side of the Black Metal spectrum. This release includes some interludes that would fall under those heading but the majority of the album is just good old blistering Black Metal.
FictionFiction by Dark Tranquillity
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $8.97
You can't go wrong with Dark Tranquility. This one is filled with agressive, yet catchy tunes.
IconIcon by Benighted
Buy new: $38.99 / Used from: $21.08
I discovered this treat of an album 5 months into 2008. Benighted play a similar style of Death Metal to that of "Aborted". The vocals switch from DEEP grunts to shrieks and all over the vocal spectrum. This is a Death Metal album you do not want to miss.
V:/HalmstadV:/Halmstad by Shining
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $7.97
This release just blew me away. How can a band create such beautiful music that still sounds so EVIL!
Riders of the PlagueRiders of the Plague by The Absence
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $3.60
Melodic Death Metal. In a sub genere that seems to be spawning more and more crap every year, this was a breath of fresh air. Even more surprising is that they are from the States!
Flies & LiesFlies & Lies by Raintime
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $6.72
Progressive Death Metal in the vein of Into Eternity. The band name will kinda throw ya off but believe me it is metal!
Serpent Saints: The Ten AmendmentsSerpent Saints: The Ten Amendments by Entombed
Buy used from: $4.52
Come on people its Entombed!
ViolutionViolution by V:28
Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $92.62
Industrial Black Metal done right! These guys are amazing and yet I never hear them get any attention. If you enjoy Black Metal and don't mind a bit of Industrial elements then you will love these guys! All of their releases are topshelf.
Holy Murder MasqueradeHoly Murder Masquerade by Impious
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $1.47
A pretty decient attempt to create a Death Metal concept album. It kinda surprised me how often I actually went back to listen to this. Good album
I KrigI Krig by Vreid
Buy used from: $17.51
Black N Roll at its finest! If you enjoyed "Between Two Worlds" and "Now, Diabolical" then you will love this one! One of my favorite bands!!!
HarvestHarvest by Naglfar
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $5.95
I will go on record and say that I am a huge fan of Naglfar. Their brand of Melodic Black Metal just rules!
Collateral DefectCollateral Defect by Graveworm
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $3.21
Alot of people did not care for this release but there is just something about Blackened Death Metal that keeps me coming back for more. It seems to be a natural progression from Nutopia.
The End of the HourThe End of the Hour by Path of Possession
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $3.50
I really enjoyed this release from Corpsegrinder and company. If you like Cannibal Corpse but wished they threw in a little more Mid-Paced Death Metal stomps, then this is the band for you.
The Novella ReservoirThe Novella Reservoir by Novembers Doom
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $5.24
Great Doom/Death release. Not as creative and epic as "The Pale Haunt Departure" but still a must buy.
To the Nameless DeadTo the Nameless Dead by Primordial
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $7.00
You won't hear as much Black Metal in this release compared to lets say Ordo Ad Chao. But beleive when I say this is one hell of a Black Metal record.
Ninewinged SerpentNinewinged Serpent by Devian
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $9.59
New Blackend Thrash band with former Marduk vocalist Legion. If you where a fan of Legion when he was with Marduk, I am sure you will enjoy this one.
A Legacy of EvilA Legacy of Evil by Limbonic Art
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $3.00
Symphonic Black Metal done right. I really enjoyed this release.
The ApostasyThe Apostasy by Behemoth
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $6.30
Great release just not what I thought it would be. Everyone raved over this album but I actually still perfer Demigod over this one. The riffs just did not catch me like they did on Demigod. The only plus to this album over Demigod is the vocals. They where a little too over produced on Demigod.
March of the ParasiteMarch of the Parasite by Laethora
Buy new: $4.98 / Used from: $0.78
I finally picked this release up a couple of months ago. What a brillant slab of modern Death Metal. When I say "Modern" I don't mean that Deathcore crap 90% of American bands try to pass off as Death Metal these days. I mean a new, cleaner approach to the core elements that make up Death Metal.
The BlackeningThe Blackening by Machine Head
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.40
I do agree with alot of metalheads in saying that this was a little overrated but you can't deny that this is a great thrash album.
Rise to RuinRise to Ruin by Gorefest
Buy used from: $6.98
Just like Entombed, this is another old school band releasing new material to show all the new kids in town how Death Metal is supposed to sound. Great release
A Symphony of SufferingA Symphony of Suffering by Infernaeon
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $0.94
A little too short to make a dent amoung the other great Death Metal releases of the year but their Symphonic Death Metal blend is very enjoyable.
Pick Up This Sick ChildPick Up This Sick Child by Vicious Art
Buy used from: $47.55
A brilliant and violent mix of Death and Black Metal.
EmissariesEmissaries by Melechesh
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $7.00
One of the better Black Metal releases of 2007. If you pefer your Black Metal to contian a little Thrash Metal, then these guys are a must listen.
Supervillain OutcastSupervillain Outcast by Dodheimsgard
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $3.96
Experimental Black Metal. At times it reminds me of what Meshuggah would sound like if they had a better vocalist.
Kingdom of FearKingdom of Fear by In Battle
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $6.78
These guys have released some great Black Metal albums over the years. This release seems to have more Death Metal moments than their past efforts. This has alot to do with the vocal approach. Still a gem in the horde of extreme metal releases in 2007.
Ordo Ad ChaoOrdo Ad Chao by Mayhem
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $5.88
The long awaited release from the Black Metal Elite. I understand that Black Metal is not supposed to have the best production value but damn guys, really?
The Arcane OdysseyThe Arcane Odyssey by Sear Bliss
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $8.28
Very hard to describe the sound these guys produce. Symphonic-Amostpheric-Thrashy Black Metal? How about "Damn Good Black Metal"? That works for me.
Storm The WallsStorm The Walls
Buy used from: $12.32
Modern Death Metal. Great overall album that will keep your head banging through the whole thing. Check it out!
The Alleviation [Explicit]The Alleviation [Explicit]
Buy new: $6.23
Even though they don't really bring anything new to Black Metal, they are still 20 times better than most bands out there. Check them out!
The Wolves Go Hunt Their PreyThe Wolves Go Hunt Their Prey by Vision Bleak
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $7.00
This is one of the few Gothic bands that really appeal to me. They have a great heavy, almost thrashy feel to them. Most of the vocals on this release are your typical deeper Gothic style, but these guys also throw in some almost Black Metal shrieks here and there. This helps to add some real depth to the songs. Check it out!
The Glory Bitches of DogheadThe Glory Bitches of Doghead by Mistress
Buy used from: $6.52
This release tends to contain a little more "Punk" than I would like. Still worth your time if you enjoy British Grindcore.
