Only Offers Protection
I purchased this item primarily because the 504 lacks its own stand. It's really nice to view it without having to lay it flat or hold it in your hands. But there are two problems with the "stand" function. It is at a near vertical angle, which is not optimal for viewing, and it can tip forward when you are trying to set it up. The second problem is that the snap that holds the cover in place to function as a stand, pops out really easily. It takes some effort to get it to stand properly. The other really annoying problem is that it is a little too small for the device. It's made of really tough leather (not the soft kind), so it offers great protection, but it also doesn't "give" much. It's like buying a leather shoe that is a little too small. You either have to wear it for a long time, or you have to use a shoe stretcher. I imagine these things are not hand made, so if mine is too small, yours probably will be too. You would think they would have made it the correct size! Anyway, because there is no other option, I would probably still have bought it because I love carrying my memories around with me in the 504. I wouldn't say stay away from it, but beware!

Why can't Archos make a case that fits its own products?
I've owned the Archos 500 and now the 504 and have used about 4 cases between them. Of those 4 cases: 2 came with the devices (the 500 one didn't fit perfectly and the 504 one does not allow access to buttons while encased), one I re-sold since it didn't even come close the fitting the device it was designed for, and lastly is this model. While the device will get into the case (with considerable effort bordering on damaging the product), it will not fit snuggly and much of the top end is left hanging out when the flap is open. This is very noticeable when in "stand-up" mode and the device tilts forward significantly. I've used this case now for a month and while some stretching has occured, not enough to make any difference. Some of the seams also appear that they may come undone in time as well from the stress exerted from the device. Some additional access holes for the usb ports would be nice also.

Aside from the shortcomings, with the flap down and buttoned it is still very effective in protecting the device (assuming you get it encased) and also durable. If you are buying this to simply protect the product when not in use, this will serve that need. However, if you want to be able to use the product but still have it in the case (such as while driving or on a plane), it becomes a bit more of a problem.

It's a case...and well that's about all you can say
Case is a basic case for the Archos 504. It's functional. Not a lot to say about it beyond it does exactly what it should. There are better cases out there, but not on Amazon. Seller shipped nice and fast, if you have a choice of sellers.
