Archos 5, 250 Internet Media Tablet and Battery Dock
I purchased an Archos 5, 250 for myself and it was so much fun, I got one for my secretary. I plan on getting 3 more for my kids at Christmas. It is a fabulous toy and holds more music, movies and games than I can ever hope to hear or see. We are each taking long air flights to Europe and Africa this summer and wanted some take along entertainment. We have had a blast loading movies and songs. It also connects to the internet with wifi, has FM radio, email and tons more features plus a screen that is very clear and large enough to enjoy movie viewing.I purchased the battery dock for extended play time on the long (10 hr) flights. I haven't tested the usable life while watching movies and am sure it will not be all that it is advertised (what is?). Also purchased the DVR docking station and it is amazing for down loading movies from the TV or TIVO plus any type of old school music such as tapes and records. This is a far superior product to the Apple. It does take a bit of time investment to get up to speed on ALL the many functions. I had so much to load I just took one feature at a time and then moved on to the next. Once you are in the groove...no sweat. I read on some of the reviews that the sound was a bit tinny. Hogwash! Plug in your head phones or even the ear buds that come with the unit and the sound is excellent. I use the Bose on the air flights. Fantastic sound quality. For those who listen without the ear buds; I have to assume they don't have a full size stereo or FM radio set up or flat screen TV. This is a great unit and can do far more than I am capable of learning. Love it.
Great accessory for the Archos 5
I believe that this is a must have accessory for the Archos 5. First of all its small and easy to travel with. Second, it will extend the battery life which is important since you can't swap the batteries (A big mistake by Archos). There are many other reasons to buy this as I will quickly point out. It allows for a much faster recharge of your Archos 5, It has video outputs for connecting to a tv and a usb port for connecting to a computer without needing a special cable from Archos. I'm glad I bought this with my Archos 5.
usb features should be standard on the Archos 5
The additional features of the product certainly make the Archos 5 are more useful tool. Don't by the dock alone, the added battery life is worth the extra little size and weight of the combined device. My biggest complaint, that this is not standard with the device.
USB host is awesome, I love being able to add another drive to my Archos. It has become my device for storing pictures and video and the ability to download from camera or memory stick is useful while traveling. It is also nice to be able to use a standard usb-mini plug to connect to a PC versus using the properitary cable from Archos.
This would have received 5 stars, except that I think the usb features should be standard on the Archos 5 and not an add-on.
