Amazon.com Product Description
Add more screen real estate to your computer's desktop with the 22-inch Acer AL2216Wbd LCD monitor, which features an elegantly sophisticated, stylish black casing. But more than just a monitor for your desktop or laptop PC, the AL2216Wbd is also an excellent choice for gamers with its blazing fast 5ms (millisecond) response time. It also offers a high level of brightness with a 300 cd/m2 rating and a 700:1 contrast ratio. Other features include a 1680 x 1050-pixel resolution, dual DVI and VGA inputs, VESA compatibility for wall mounting, and user friendly controls on the front.

The monitor's 5ms response time is essential for hard-core gamers, and it's also great for watching high-intensity action movies with fast movement. It offers a high level of brightness with a 300 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) rating and a 700:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a monitor's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The screen also has a 170-degree horizontal and 160-degree vertical viewing angle.

The AL2216Wbd has a 22-inch screen (measured diagonally) that is framed by a thin, black bezel. The screen housing measures 20.2 inches wide by 16 inches tall. It sits upon a flat stand that measures 7.8 inches deep. Get just the right view with forward and backward tilting. The spare back includes just a power connector and the two video inputs: analog VGA and digital DVI with HDCP, which enables you to hook this monitor up to a cable or satellite set-top box for watching your favorite TV programs. It also supports Kensington locks for added security.

Tech Talk

  • HDCP -- High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of copy protection technology designed to prevent transmission of non-encrypted high-definition content as it travels across DVI or HDMI digital connections.

  • Response Time -- The amount of time it takes for a liquid crystal cell to from active (black) to inactive (white) and back against to active (black). It's measured in milliseconds (ms), and the lower the number the faster the response time--translating to a smoother picture with fewer pixilated or ghosted artifacts.

From the manufacturer

Customer Reviews

Huge(22 inch lcd) + Numer 1= Buy it (It's that simple)5
When I set this monitor up and watched it the first thing that came to mind was Amazing Purchase. If you are on a budget, stop thinking and buy this. For the price, ranking, and size there is none like it!

Savings means more Toys5
Big monitor, Big Savings!

I plugged it in (to my new HP) and it worked perfectly! No set up (even though it had software just in case)

Why pay more for the exact same thing?

I thought about giving it 4 Stars because its not perfect BUT only because its base is non-adjustable. However, the price negates qualifying that in its review. I don't care if it's non adjustable, that hasn't been an issue. And with the over $100 I saved vs. similar versions. It deserves 5 Stars.

A great buy!

Playing 1680 x 1050 on a 22" LCD for the price of a 17" standard5
This is probably the most economic widescreen LCD you can own. It really is in a class of its own for the price and I have never come across a monitor that revolutionizes viewing like this does. There is nothing even remotely like it and people who want to buy a 17" monitor just need to add a fifth of the price more and they have a 22" widescreen. So that's an insane bargain and it is no wonder why this Acer monitor is the hottest LCD being shipped right now. If you want any monitor, get this, unless you are willing to spend double for a high end system of the same size.

Once you go 1680 x 1050 you will never go back. Windows, Games, watching movies changes radically with this setup. It has got HDMI. So for anyone that has put together a nice high end rig with the latest q6600 Intel processor and a GeForce 8800, then this is the icing and is worth every penny. Things just aren't the same without it and going back to 19" standard is like going back to the 80s or something.

The LCD does have quite a few caveats though and you should be warned about them. This is not a high end 22" LCD. The refresh rates/response is not fantastic. It is good just not what you see on high end systems. Some games do cause the occasional line break-up. You will not notice this unless you pay close attention to every detail but when you do see it you realize that this is why it is so cheap. Quite simply it's the lowest grade of a 22" 1680 x 1050 experience you can have, but should be a heck of a lot lower for the price and I really mean that. So it justifies itself by giving you the best 1680 x 1050 experience for your buck by far.

The other drawbacks are that it gets hot and the screen can be a little too bright at times. It may not respond all the time (one time it failed to recognize that the PC was turned on after I turned the LCD off/on). It is not designed for professional media use so forget it if you need to do serious photoshopping or pixel pushing. You cannot extend the monitor so you need to sit it on top of something if you want to increase the height.

But let's be clear here. You should be expecting a lot worse for the price and you just get more... so much more that it blows you away. Everyone who has this monitor can think of nothing but wow and never has looking forward to using your PC being so much fun. The only people who can complain are those who spent twice the price on something else that is not twice as good.

Pros:
Economic price
1680 x 1050
Slim
Surprisingly good quality

Cons:
Response time
Brightness
Heat
Non-extendable
