![]() | Created in Darkness by Troubled Americans: The Best of McSweeney's, Humor Category
Buy new: $16.95 / Used from: $0.08 Solid collection of satire from the contributors to McSweeney's. Occasionally a bit strained and too esoteric for its own good, but often sharp and very, very funny.

![]() | The Twilight of the Idols and The Anti-Christ: or How to Philosophize with a Hammer (Penguin Classics) by Friedrich Nietzsche
Buy new: $9.60 / Used from: $0.29 Essential collection for anyone interested in Nietzsche. The first book is a heady overview of his philosophy and works as a great introduction to his ideas. The second book is his all-out assault on Christianity. Good times.
![]() | Lady Chatterley's Lover (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) by D. H. Lawrence
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $5.40 Better known for its content (specifically the shocking-for-its-time depictions of sex) than its meaning or style, this hardly Lawrence's best work of fiction. However, it's still a lyrically beautiful and incisive novel.
![]() | Go for Beginners by Kaoru Iwamoto
Buy new: $9.60 / Used from: $2.16 An wonderful introduction to the game from one of the best players of the past century.
![]() | The Inheritors
Buy used from: $7.25 Interesting book by the author of "Lord of the Flies." It tells the story of a meeting between a clan of Neanderthals and a tribe of early Homo Sapiens, told from the perspective of the former. In the end becomes a little confusing as the action needs to be decoded from the protagonist's limited understanding of what is happening.
![]() | Martian Time-Slip by Philip K. Dick
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $3.33 Tad bit rambling, though interesting, science fiction from PKD. Not one of his classics, but many of the better elements of his fiction are evident.
![]() | Scaramouche A Romance of the French Revolution by Rafael Sabatini
Buy new: $14.90 / Used from: $12.00 Great piece of historical fiction centered around a cynical, brilliant hero. I find it interesting that I only seem to get into best sellers 70 or 80 years after they are published.

![]() | When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? by George Carlin
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $0.01 Carlin's third collection of scattered material, much of it from his routines. The real gold is the original material, especially his deconstructions of American language. Funny stuff.
![]() | Gods and Myths of the Viking Age by H. R. Ellis Davidson
Buy used from: $3.29 Decent enough overview of Norse mythology, though a little scattered and the author seems to take it for granted that the audience is a Christian one, which makes the book come off as a little bit dismissive even when the author is showing the greatest respect to the material. Interesting, though incomplete.
![]() | Alphabet of wit; by Voltaire
Buy used from: $2.99 Interesting little collection of definitions from the author of "Candide." These can also be found in his "Philosophical Dictionary."

![]() | The High Window by Raymond Chandler
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $1.09 A solid entry in the Phillip Marlow series, though not the best of the bunch. Nobody wrote hard boiled better than Chandler.
![]() | Godmakers by Frank Herbert
Buy used from: $4.11 Another of Herbert's none "Dune" novels. A man slowly discovers his abilities and finds that he has the power of a god. Wooden characters and a scattered, rushed plot which are about standard for Herbert's lesser novels. Still interesting, nevertheless.
