Album Description
"the apocalypse's doomy, amp-destroying fifth horseman...galloping mammoth metal" - SPIN
"unbelievably heavy...massive crunching riffs and drums that slam like vault doors" - REVOLVER
Massive power trio HIGH ON FIRE are a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume. Equal parts molten metal and earthquake panic, HIGH ON FIRE's MOTORHEAD-meets-SLAYER roar is outrageously loud and absolutely punishing. With Blessed Black Wings, guitarist / vocalist Matt Pike (ex-SLEEP) unleashes a devastating combination of bombastic guitar and howling war cries, weaving fantastical tales of supernatural beasts, forgotten battles and rivers of blood over an unstoppable bass and drum assault. HIGH ON FIRE are a class unto themselves, manhandling rock music while locking into grooves that transcend time.

...Day Will Come When I Will Conquer
THIS!! is High On Fires Masterpiece! It drags you highspeed through a landscape threatened by towering cliffs, desolate desert valleys, and morbid smoke-filled sunsets menaced by sinister black-winged demons. The production is tighter, but the sound is still immense and the guitars still have tooth and claw. There are a few well placed acoustic intros and interludes, but the body of the songs is crushing in impact and march like an infuriated iron armored horde armed to the teeth. "Devilution" opens with a battering drum solo giving way to serrated guitar riffs and lyrics that tell the story of the melancholy downfall of the modern world. "Brother In The Wind" is a dirge, perhaps for a fallen comrade, and is probably the most melodic on the album, and yet still pummeling in its sonic intentions. "Cometh Down Hessian" "Annointing Of Seer" and the title track, are all visceral, blistering thrash epics, and, my personal favorite HOF song, "To Cross The Bridge" is stampeding, otherworldy berserker metal at its most savage and reckless. "Sons Of Thunder" is an atmospheric instrumental, it serves to call the listener back down from the storm filled skies, back to our own humble trappings, which are nowhere near as vibrant or transcendental as that which "Blessed Black Wings" transports you into. This deserves a place in the halls of glory alongside anything by Exodus, Testament, Venom, Megadeth, Slayer, Celtic Frost etc. and is equally groundbreaking and original as Metallicas first 3 albums. ESSENTIAL!!!
Great doom, great music...
Matt Pike and co have created a great doom record with dark guitars, pounding bass, tribal drumming and fu..ing brutal vocal... The production is raw, Matt uses Laney Klipp and Soldano amps, there are no digital stompboxes in sight... My personal favs are the title track, Devilution, The Face Of Oblivion, Brother In The Wind and Cometh Down Hessian
You should buy everything by this band!!
RELENTLESS
Yep, that about sums it up. Listening to this album is like being relentlessly punched in the chops by Lemmy while continuously kneed in the groin by Tony Iommi. I love these guys, and so should you...
