Editorial Reviews
Album Description
The chilling, psychedelia-drenched self-titled debut from this UK band is a dense mix of the trio's influences: Spiritualized, Mogwai, Television, Neu, and Tortoise. A sound that lies somewhere between their joint love for ambient noise, motorik beats, drones, feedback, harmony, and melody. They've been a fixture of late night MTV2 rotation, and recently created the soundtrack for a Nike World Cup commercial. The US version of this album contains a bonus disc with four additional tracks and two videos. "Within ten songs, The Early Years manage to run the gamut of emotional exploration that leaves you elated, desperate, and moved in such ways you had not felt since your own early years. Truly wondrous" - The Fly (UK).

If they ever decide to hand out Grammys to the band with the most accurately descriptive song titles, put your money on the Early Years. On its self-titled debut, this London psychedelic-rock band is straightforward and plain. "A Little More Drones" does exactly what it says it's going to do by droning on a little further after the already droning opening track "All Ones and Zeros." Then there's "An Introduction to the Ambient Sounds of the Early Years." Think the song is not an introduction to the ambient sounds of the Early Years? Think again. Yes, psychedelic rock usually requires a little more lavish imagery to fully succeed, but it's really hard to find fault with a band that draws its inspiration from trip-out kings like Spiritualized and Neu. This album simply sounds enormous. And once in a while the band even manages to slip in a few actual tunes. --Aidin Vaziri

simply perfect
This debut album is in one word PERFECT.
Is Great! Amazing! Superb! ...a perfect mixture of pop, rock, ambient, krautrock, sperimentalism... I can find sounds like U2, Coldplay, Neu, Joy Division (!?) ...
...A GOOD WORK... A GREAT BAND... A GREAT FUTURE !
amazing debut
Just buy the album.
This album is great.
It's my favorite album of this year.
Incredible debut
The Early Years have put together a great album with their self-titled debut. Their 'sound' is easy to recognize, and not many bands have the good fortune of finding it so early in their career. By the second listen this became one of my favorite albums of the year. In fact, its one of my favorites since Califone's Roots & Crowns. And much like that album, this one is best listened through; from beginning to end. Great mix of atmospheric build-ups and stunning rock guitar parts. Can't wait to see how these three guys develop their sound from here.
