The FAST Draw relies on Forward Action Spring Technology, or F.A.S.T., that was designed exclusively for Gerber and patented by famed Oregon knife maker Butch Vallotton. Butch is known as "Mr. Mechanism" in the custom-knife world, a tribute to his unique designs and exceptional understanding of opening and locking mechanisms. This new, proprietary blade opening concept means that you can deploy your knife quickly and easily using just one hand.
Of course, when a job calls for more deliberate actions, you can also open this knife in the traditional way, using the thumb stud. This is the closest you can get to a street legal switch-blade.
Convenient, Safe, and Dependable Over Time
A sharp knife is not only more useful than a dull knife, it's also safer to use. With a strong, sharp blade, you can make the cuts you want quickly and efficiently. That's why Gerber uses a high-carbon stainless steel blade on the FAST Draw. This large, 2.99-inch blade offers a fine-edged cutting surface that can easily be sharpened using standard methods. FAST Draw is the first in a series of knives utilizing "Fast Technonogy." Others include the Mini-Fast, Draw, Aluminum Presto 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, Vallotton, PR2.5 and PR3.0, Convert Fast, Mini Convert Fast, Answer 3.25, Tanto and Drop Point F.A.S.T.
This drop point blade, which is stronger than the clip-point style blades used on many pocket knives, fits neatly in the handle when not in use, so you don't have to worry about damaging it or hurting yourself.
The knife is precisely balanced to sit comfortably in your hand and features a glass-filled nylon handle for strength and durability. Texturing on the handle surface ensures a secure grip for improved control.
At just 3.6 ounces, the slim FAST Draw knife is light enough to take with you anywhere. And with the included sturdy pocket clip, you always know right where your knife is.

Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.
What's in the Box
Fine edge FAST Draw Folding Knife.
From the Manufacturer
Gerber Legendary Blades is proud beyond description to introduce our first spring-assisted knife. The FAST Draw relies on our proprietary new blade opening concept--Forward Action Spring Technology--that's so lightning-quick, so pleasingly easy to open with just one hand, it's already drawing a lot of attention among knife folks everywhere. The mechanism was created exclusively of us and patented by Qregon knife make Butch Vallotton. Should you choose, you can open the FAST Draw in the traditional way, using the thumb stud. Or, if speed is the order of the day, you can simply trigger the blade's sudden release with your index finger. It's an exciting concept that certainly belongs in your collection.
Customer Reviews
The absolute best designed folding knife
I'm a designer, and I compulsively get caught up in the design details of products. I'm not a knife collector, or even an expert. My previous knife is a 40 year old folding Buck knife. I love that Buck, but it's so heavy and awkward to carry. In researching a new knife to buy, I looked for one that was large and sturdy enough to be a good survival knife while on the hiking trail. I also looked for a knife that, was light, had a trim profile, and could be opened with one hand. I found all these in the Gerber "Fast Draw". it's surprisingly sturdy for it's light weight. the spring-assist opening mechanism makes it very easy to open quickly with one hand, and snaps to a solid locked-open position. Like I said, I'm not a knife expert, just someone who appreciates good tools and well designed product--but I would enthusiastically recommend this knife to anyone. Unless you really hate serrated blades, get the serrated version. it's half-serrated, allowing for carving with the front half of the blade, but the serrated section cuts through even the toughest lines with ease.
Great carry Knife at an excellent price!
The Gerber F.A.S.T. (Forward Action Spring Technology) Draw knife is a pleasure to open and requires nothing more than a nudge on the thumb stud, or a simple push from your index finger on the knifes back to snap into action, and locking the blade in place. It has an excellent 3" 440A High Carbon Stainless blade (that is half serrated) is extremely sharp, and holds an edge for a long time between sharpenings! To close the blade you must slide a small, conveniently located button under your thumb forward and fold. The body of the knife is a very grippable, solid feeling glass-filled nylon, that feels great in your hand.
I love knives and have several Kershaws, Bucks, SOGs and Spyderco knives. I consider myself a knife junkie and enjoy all of my blades. But this knife is often the one I carry with me everyday! I really like the integrated "steel" pocket clip, it is easy to carry in the pocket and releases only when you want! I have recommended this knife to many of my friends and have given them as gifts to knife newbies frequently!
Search is over
I have carried a blade just about everyday of my adult life. The whole "feel naked without it thing". I have tried large blades, small blades, fixed blades, switch blades, "butterfly" blades....I even carried a.....well I'd rather not get into that one. I have a fairly large plastic case that I have filled with retired knives over the years. Knives that were too bulky, too slow, too dangerous, too weak, even too ugly. Well, I will not be adding too many knives to that box now. The Gerber Fast Draw is THE FINEST knife I have ever carried. It is the most comfortable, most discreet, fastest opening, safest to carry, easiest to sharpen, best looking, easiest to close, and the easiest to forget it is in your pocket of any knife I have ever carried. I have always been loyal to Gerber over the years, but this is the first time I ever stocked up (bought 2 more) knives to hold for the future when this knife, as all others, is sadly discontinued. I expect a good long time of this knife in my pocket.
