Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
As legacies go, a man could do worse than being survived by the famous knife he designed. Such is the case with the late Colonel Rex Applegate. He was one of this proud nation's top authorities on close-quarters combat in particular, and fighting knives in general. The Applegate-Fairbairn Covert stands with the Applegate-Fairbairn Combat as lasting symbols of the colonel's dedication, expertise, and sense of purpose. It should come as no surprise that these two knives are known internationally as best-of-class among folding tactical knives. They've rightfully earned a reputation for unmatched strength, durability and balance. More than that, tactical professionals have high regard for the high carbon 420 stainless steel blade. As well as the glass-filled nylon handles, and the patented rotolock. The Combat has the added convenience of a hearty pocket clip and a ballistic nylon sheath.
Customer Reviews
Great knife, but price could be better
I've owned this knife for some time now for collectible purposes and every once in a while I'll take it out of the sheath and open some mail with it or something, (after all, you have to at least TRY it out.)
The blade is very smooth opening and SOLID when locked. Even good knives sometimes have a little bit of blade wiggle if you push on it, but not this one. The grip could be better, if your life depended on a solid grip on this thing - if it's wet, you're in trouble. The grip is strong, you can tell when you hold it, but it feels cheap for some reason. The lock is unquestionable, sometimes you get locks of this style that don't fully `click over' or however you want to say it, but this one is LOCKED. When you use it, you can tell the manufacturing tolerances were very precise. Very strong rigid knife.
Would I recommend this knife? Absolutely! Would I pay anything more then maybe $60 or $70 for it? Probably not. You could get a good made in the USA knife that a little better for about the same price, maybe a Benchmade or Spyderco.
