Editorial Reviews
Review
Bobbie Kalman and Barbara Bedell provide their readers with a luxurious vehicle to travel back in time to the Victorian era and participate in the festive Christmas occasion. The detailed, well-written text is simple enough to be read like a picture book, but factual enough to provide the reader with all the necessary information to bring this holiday to life with flare and grandeur -- Resource Links, June 1997

Taken from Chapter 3: The Christmas tree The early Victorian tree The early Victorian Christmas trees were decorated with fruits, nuts, pine cones, and small homemade gifts. Tiny hand-stitched dolls and children's mittens added a personal touch, and treats such as small toys and sugar cookies delighted children. Hand-dipped candles shone from the branches, which were draped with strings of popcorn and berries. A star twinkled from the top of the tree to remind everyone of the Christmas star that led the Wise Men to Jesus.
Customer Reviews
Informative and Charming
This may be for children but it is a great source on how the Victorians spent Christmas. Lots of information and charming illustrations. With the help of this book, I will be able to create a credible Victorian Christmas at home.
Victorian Christmas (Kalman, Bobbie)
Being heavily into Victorian I buy as many items as I can that relate to the subject. And being even more into Christmas (I do a Victorian Christmas, putting up 14 trees and all of the attendant decorations)I do collect items on Victorian Christmas. This book was a very nice addition to my library.
Victorian Party
Victorian Christmas by Kalman and Bedell is a small volume in pages(32) but packed full of information with beautiful illustrations. It could be read by a teen or adult or even an older elementary student. We used the information to make our Dickens Christmas Party more in keeping with the period.
