Excellent cookbook! I've been told the recipes are quite authentic and we've made several recipes and they've been delicious! The diri kole recipe has been our kids' #1 favorite recipe ever and their ultimate comfort food (after 2 years here, it's still their favorite meal, rivaling even pizza! :)

A slow read...but lays a good foundation for adoptive parents. Speaking w/adult adoptees, one found these to be very true, another felt only some. Seems to depend on each person and their experiences.

If your child speaks Creole, it's super helpful and easy (and fun!) to learn some Haitian Creole. This book was helpful among others, especially Kreyol for Parents by Bin Bineto (if you can find it on the web).

Attaching seems to be the #1 priority when bringing your kids home yet most overlooked by adoptive parents. This book has tons of great examples and advice. Really good book.

Very eye-opening! Transracial parents should definitely read this. I didn't care for his writing style, but his messages in this memoir were very important. It confirms a lot of things in "Inside Transracial Adoption".

Like almost all transracial literature, very interesting and helpful to see what pain we can prevent causing our kids. This one made a big impact on us and helped bring great changes in our life. Please don't be afraid to pick it up -- you'll not only learn what mistakes to prevent but some of the stories were quite positive, so I encourage you to read it to help learn what to right too.

Probably anything by Haitian author Edwidge Danticat is a good choice. Interesting views into her life, beautiful writing.

Incredible book, not only fascinating to read but helped us make sense of the trauma our kids experienced and why their brains are now wired a certain way, and how to help them.

Very touching and moving, helps lend understanding to what it's like to be a woman in Haiti.
