Our first baby has been more like the "Colickiest Baby on the Block." This DVD helped me more nights than I can count. Not every single thing worked, but for the most part, Dr. Karp's "5 S's" methods were lifesavers. We still swaddle; it's the only way we can get her to sleep through the night.

The nice thing about this product is that it belts around you, on your waist. It's basically a feeding platform that you prop your baby on to nurse. The ability to have it buckle on to you can be useful. I can actually stand up while wearing it with the baby on board, still nursing, to answer the phone or run and hide from unexpected company when it's 4:00 p.m. and I'm still wearing my pajamas.

The information in the book is immensely useful for breastfeeding moms. The authors (Dr. Sears and RN wife Martha) have tons of practical bits of advice - techniques, explanations of how the whole process works, issues you may have, what to expect at each stage of your baby's development while breastfeeding, etc., etc.

OK, I have to say, I LOVE THIS! I was given this Majamas nursing dress as a shower gift, while I still had 3 months to go in my pregnancy. I wore it while pregnant to sleep in when nothing else fit, and I wear it all the time to sleep in now that I'm nursing. The material is comfortable, stretchy, and the fit is quite stylish. It has holes for breast pads to avoid leakage as well.

All babies need to be burp. And pretty much all babies, at some time or another, are going to have something come up with the burp. These burp cloths are not only quite stylish (oh so chic!), they're also larger than many you see out there, helping to protect your clothes from the telltale stripe of baby gurb that runs down many a parent's shoulder.

With a swaddled baby who sometimes has reflux, a positioner is a great sleeping tool to keep your baby comfy and cozy.

For fussy babies, "wearing" them can be a lifesaver. The Bjorn is great & I also like the sling because it gives baby the feel of being in the womb. FYI: I recommend getting a sling in stretchy fabric (fleece or knit, etc.); it makes it much easier to get baby in & out. My husband really took to wearing the sling, some men like it more than the Bjorn.

I'd recommend ANY system where the carseat snaps in & out of the car base as well as the stroller. It really helps in the first months when you want to transfer baby easily, while asleep. Stroller has a large storage basket beneath the seat, very handy. Folding stroller is fairly easy & fits in the trunk of my car no problem. Can be heavy, especially w/ C-section, see Kolcraft universal carrier.

At the baby shower, I couldn't figure out why people kept giving us bibs for newborns (0-3 mos). I didn't think we'd need bibs until the baby was eating solids at 6 mos. Now I know better. Babies DROOL. At least ours does! Bibs also help with spit-up. Sounds corny, but get CUTE bibs (you’ll see the bibs more than their clothes) in comfortable materials.
