The best from one of the best.
Not a lot to say about this album. Peter Rowan is one of the best folk artists out there, and this is, in this reviewer's humble opinion, his very best album. It showcases his talent for melody with an acoustic guitar coupled with both beautiful and stark images to create a concept album aimed at the dust bowl days of the midwest long ago. The songs tell both sad and gripping stories about things that did, and might have, happened in those times. 'Little Mother' and 'Barefoot Country Road' are my favorites along with the title track. If you like Nanci Griffith, Richard Shindell, or John Gorka, you'll like this album. Two thumbs up!

Absolute Masterpiece
Why this album isn't reviewed here more, is a mystery to me. Dust Bowl Children is an absolute masterpiece. One of the best and most pure country records ever made! Great melodies, superb storytelling in the socially conscious lyrics and beautiful, sparse accompaniment on guitar, mandola and occassionally harmonica and dobro. Songs like the title track, Tumbleweed, Barefoot Country Road and the Wings Of Horses bring tears to my eyes. This is the real deal, folks. Buy it now and you'll keep coming back to this great record from the great and timeless storyteller that is Peter Rowan.
