Customer Reviews
Great earphones for the price.
I normally don't write reviews, but the previous review is so inaccurate, I felt I needed to give my opinion. First off, these headphones are 1,000 times better than the iPod stock headphones (the ones with the bigger speaker). The sound quality is what you would expect from Denon. The highs and mids are crisp. The bass is of course, exaggerated and heavy, but most people like that. I personally prefer a natural bass, but the bass on these phones works well.
The cord is a bit shorter in length than other earphones, but works well for what I use the phones for. I use these at work, the gym, and mountain biking. I usually run the cord along my back from my rear pocket to my neck. The cord is plenty long for that, and I am a pretty tall guy. The cord is designed to go around your neck, with the length of the cord for the right phone much longer than the left. If you know how to use this feature it is great and will eliminate the need for a shirt-clip, although shirt-clips are nice. The cord is also tangle resistant, which is a definite plus. I wear these phones for 4 plus hours a day, and they are so comfortable I forget they are in my ears.
The earbuds themselves seem to be made out of a metal, and are a bit heavier than the Sony fontopias. They are very comfortable, but may take a day or two to get use to if you have used Sony's in the past. I bought these to replace a pair of broken Sony EX-71's. I find the sound quality and make to be superior to the Sony's. The Denon's are a bit more expensive, but IMHO well worth the price. Also, the ear pieces fit very firmly, so you can skip the super glue.
Update - These Phones also work with iPhone, no adaptor needed.
JUNK
After purchasing these Denon earbuds I returned them to the store they came from within 30 minutes.
Here is why:
- Like many other earbuds these come with the awkward, lopsided headphone wires that leave you with one side having roughly 12 inches of extra slack while the other side is way too short. Apparently this is supposed to be designed for people who carry their MP3 players on the side of their body. In theory this extra length of wire is easier to maneuver when turning your head, but considering how many people I hear complaining about this problematic design it might be smarter to even out these wires...and no, they can NOT be adjusted.
- Immediately after opening these earbuds it was obvious they were shamelessly overpriced. Instead of the sleek, rugged metal design I'm used to with the V-Moda brand of earbuds, I instead found that these Denon headphones were made of cheap plastic. Not unlike the throw-away kind of shoddy Apple earbuds that come free with iPods.
- The box claims to have superior acoustic sound. This is just a flat-out lie. Compared to the sound quality of other ear buds I've tried (and I've tried alot) these were one of the worst. They actually sound like your listening to music through two mini tin cans.
- These in-ear headphones also use a very thin gauge of wire and don't seem durable at all. It would be much more reasonable to simply purchase a cheaper brand of earbuds. Again, this gauge of wire is comparable to the cheap Apple earbuds that come free with every iPod.
- Speaking of the wire used with this product, people should be informed that these earbuds come in two pieces. The earbuds have a very short (and frankly, completely useless) stretch of wire roughly 12 inches long. At the end of the wire is a a straight jack connector that has to be plugged into the included female adaptor which is attached to the other half of wire needed to make a reasonable length. Why was this necessary?
- It should also be noted that the jack that actually plugs into your media device is NOT a straight jack as shown from the box or in the online pictures. The jack on the second piece of wire is curved (like the old Walkman headphones) so it just adds to the annoyance factor of this inferior product. Anyone using an iPod or any other small media player should take this into consideration.
Anyone looking for a quality pair of earbuds should avoid this product at all costs. I highly recommend the V-Moda line of earbuds, you will see, feel, and most importantly, hear a huge difference in quality.
Great sound for the price
These in-ear phones sound excellent, especially considering the price. At home, I listen to music with my open-back grado sr-125's (150 dollar cans) and I would say that these sound almost as nice (low end is a bit exaggerated, and mids aren't that crisp). That being said, I assume everyone uses these with a portable device and mid to low bitrate mp3s, and they are excellent in this regard. I also find them quite comfortable, and the uneven length wire is nothing unusual. I can't remember buying a pair of earbuds in the past 3 years that didn't have this feature. I'm not the biggest fan of the thin rubber wire which one reviewer already pointed out, tends to grab on to clothes. Not a big deal. I had a similarly priced pair of in-ear Sony Fontopia earbuds which I absolutely loved (but unfortunately lost), and decided to give these a shot. I don't regret it...a very quality product as I would expect a company like Denon to put out.
