Product Description

This concise manual goes beyond a series of independent tools and commands to consider the process of creating professional-quality building design projects using the newest release of Autodesk® Architectural Desktop (ADT). Content focuses squarely on the rationale and practicality of ADT 2007 through life-tested, practical lessons that emphasize "why" as well as "how" in order to help readers complete their projects successfully. The text and lessons combine to give an unmistakable sense of the value of the tools introduced as well as a clear indication of each tool's potential. The result is an up-to-the-minute resource that shortens the learning curve and instills confidence and comfort in usage of the software as a tool to create architecture.

Never out in print fast enough5
Paul Aubin has done it again. Like my title says, Paul Aubin's books never come out fast enough for me. This book is a great resource for ADT users. There have been a lot of changes since ADT first came out. The major changes started in ADT 2004 and continue on thru ADT 2007. The changes from ADT 2006 to ADT 2007 are covered very well in this book. He takes you step by step thru a residential project & a commercial project. As you go thru the book he not only shows you how you command(s) work, but also why. He also gets into the subtle changes that have come about, e.g. Visual Styles. The books is arranged in such a way that you can be productive in ADT 2007 as you go along in the book. You don't have to wait until you are completed with the book to be productive. You can also move around in the book to go over a certain part of ADT without having to work your way up to it. For example, if you are just getting thru adding windows & doors & your work project needs to add a roof, you can go to the section of the book that covers roofs & you will be able to understand how to work roofs from reading the section withour having to do the sections before. But, if you can, go thru the book in the order that it's written to get the best grasp of ADT that you can. You can truly expect your skills to rise at least one level from going thru the book.

I would recommend this book to all ADT users, beginning thru advanced. If you are thinking about moving to ADT, get this book so that your learning curve is the shortest possible.

I would also recommend that you get Paul Aubin's book about Mastering Viz Render also. A great resouce for getting the look just right for your ADT model.

Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 20074
Has excellent tutorials, but difficult to look up a problem.

2007 ADT Tutorial5
I'm approximately one third of the way through the book. I've been using ACAD for approximately twenty years and I agree with the author that having some ACAD experience is helpful, perhaps essential in learning this software. I'm using it to teach myself and even though the book is excellent, nothing beats being able to ask someone a question when you're stuck. This is very complexe software and if you have a problem, you're left to your own devices. I come from a mechanical engineering background and don't know a soul familiar with ADT. The book is well written and illustrated but you have to read very closely to avoid errors in the exercises.
