Editorial Reviews

Editorial Review
Because of its specially designed silicone nipple that mimics the shape of a mother's breast, this 9-ounce feeding bottle from Avent is the bottle of choice for many nursing mothers who may have to supplement with formula occasionally. This popular bottle has some nice features and some distinct advantages over some of the less expensive bottles. Holding a little more than 9 ounces when it is full, the Avent bottle has an unusually wide mouth and a large nipple--making it easy to fill the bottle with expressed breast milk or formula, and easy to clean both the bottle and the nipple itself. Although the bottle is equipped with an antivacuum skirt valve that is designed to reduce the amount of air your baby swallows while feeding--and thus the amount of gas they experience--the bottle will not completely eliminate this common problem. Made of a durable polycarbonate plastic that is both dishwasher and microwave safe, the bottle can be attached to a manual Avent Isis breast pump to express breast milk directly. The bottle comes with a self-sealing cap to prevent spills. --Chris Burns

From the Manufacturer
Philips Avent 9oz Bottle w/ Slow Flow Nipple. When baby sucks on the nipple, the skirt collapses inward, allowing small amounts of air into the bottle, replacing the milk at a rate the baby controls with its own suckling rhythm. Because this exchange of air into the bottle occurs throughout the feeding session, baby will get a continuous flow of milk.

The absolute best bottles (and I've tried them all)5
These bottles are the BEST. They are a bit more expensive, but well worth it. The wide-mouthed bottle is easy to clean, and it holds 8 oz. of water plus 4 scoops of formula easily so you can mix bottles as you need them. The nipples are fabulous...my daughter is 12 months old and has been using the same nipples for 9 months now! My baby likes a slow-flow nipple but she sucks very hard, and these NEVER collapse. The silicon does not break down or get sticky, even after repeated washings in my scalding-hot dishwasher.

The only weird thing about these bottles is if the collars are on too tight, the bottles leak a bit. Easily remedied by not over-tightening the collars.

I tried just about every bottle and nipple on the market and these are by far the best. The durability alone makes them worth the extra $$.

One caveat...if you have been using a "traditional" shaped bottle/nipple, there is an adjustment period for both you and the baby. At first I thought these were awkward to hold and my baby was a bit confused by the broader nipple. After a day or so we were both completely hooked and she will not drink from any other bottle at all.

Satisfied New Mom4
We have been using the AVENT bottle system for supplementing our child as well as feeding pumped breast milk. This was the system recommended to us by a lactation consultant. They are very handy, easy to drink from, and easy to wash. The only problem we have had is if the nipples aren't on just right, the bottle will leak at the collar. But other than that the bottles and nipples are very durable (still look like new after months of use). We are additionally very satisfied with the AVENT pacifiers.

If I had to purchase the bottles all over again, I would buy more 9 oz. bottles. It doesn't take long for the babies to get to the point where they are drinking more than 4-5 ozs (what the smaller bottles hold).

Durable, comfortable, safe4
Avent is a great manufacturer. My son is ill and has been on bottles for two years. He's just now starting to wear out the 6 month old nipples. The bottles hold 9 oz., are stable (wide instead of tall!) and are very comfortable to handle (use the 4 oz. bottles for smaller babies).
