About the Author
Born in 1953, the youngest of three girls, Laura Numeroff grew up in Brooklyn, New York, surrounded by art, music, and books. By age nine, Laura started writing her own stories and drew pictures to go with them -- she would even make a book cover for them and write down the name of the publisher. She also spent a great deal of time reading and took weekly trips to the public library -- which was about five blocks from her house. At that time, her favorite possessions were her microscope, a box of sixty-four crayons, and her library card.
At age fifteen, Laura decided to follow in her sister's footsteps and become a fashion designer. However, during her last semester in college, Laura decided to take a class in writing and illustrating books for children. She ended up graduating with a degree and a publishing contract for her first book! She has been writing now for 27 years and has written 16 books for children. Her best-selling If You Give a ... series has received critical acclaim and has become a favorite for children of all ages. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Customer Reviews
not as fun as other Numeroff-Bond collaborations
Do not buy this book expecting the same hilarious adventures of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". The same little rodent is featured, and the illustrations are excellent, but the action almost exclusively concerns the mouse's solitary baking. It is a short board book meant for the younger crowd and is entertaining, but it is strangely disjointed, particularly when one considers the fluid antics of the earlier books -- a fine introduction to the Numeroff-Bond books, but this one will not have the same staying power.
Another winner from Laura Numeroff
As a BIG fan of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and If You Give a Pig a Pancake, I was thrilled to discover the Best Mouse Cookie Ever so that I could introduce my 18 month old niece to Ms. Numeroff's work. My niece isn't quite ready for the longer, more complicated stories but this book she truly adores (she points to it and says "More" everytime I put it down)! This book is as charming and delightful as all of Ms. Numeroff's others. And the illustrations by Ms. Bond are enchanting as always! I am not sure who enjoyed it more, my niece or myself!
Not as fun as the others
I did buy this book thinking it was going to be like the other books in the series. My 2 year old and I were both disappointed. It is a cute book, but considering my daughter was already enjoying the longer books in the series, this one was just not as entertaining.
