It's no secret that babies love colorful images and are soothed by beautiful music. Now Celebration of Color, part of the trilogy of videos from the illustrious Babyscapes, offers up this intriguing and stimulating combination. Like the other Babyscapes videos, this is not only wonderful for baby, but lovely for parents and caregivers. Repeated viewings won't be a problem, since the music is not only beautiful but well presented. Celebration of Color features seven segments and seven classical tunes that combine color, shapes, music, and rudimentary reading (the colors are spelled out slowly, through the CGI images). Babyscapes videos also don't feature any extraneous narration and let the music and images convey the message. Celebration of Color offers the following segments: a colorful display of fireworks set to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3; the color blue to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy"; red to Beethoven's "Turkish March"; yellow to a Brahms "Hungarian Dance"; green to Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik; purple to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2; and orange to Boccherini's "Minuetto."

Packaging suggests that children up to 5 may still be interested in this enchanting video, but it's doubtful that the interest of children as old as 5--or, in some cases, even 3 and 4 (who may be in preschool and used to more active stimulation)--will be sustained throughout. (Ages 8 months to 4 years) --N.F. Mendoza

From the back cover
Studies have proven that classical music is processed in the same region of the brain that develops language and math skills. That is why child development experts agree that classical music should be part of a total infant stimulation program. Celebration of Color is the anticipated sequel to Baby's Smart Start, the widely acclaimed infant stimulation video. This new video celebrates that special time when babies can start to clearly see color. This is an exciting time in a baby's life--full of wonder and discovery. It's a time of celebration. And that's exactly what Celebration of Color achieves, with seven upbeat celebratory classical music pieces. Each of the scenes will introduced your child to classical music as well as the primary and secondary colors. From multi-colored fireworks to abstract shapes, all of the song's images move to classical music in unique and interesting ways. 1. Fireworks, Bach: Brandenburg Concerto #3. 2. Blue, Beethoven: Ode To Joy. 3. Red, Beethoven: Turkish March. 4. Yellow, Brahms: Hungarian Dance. 5. Green, Mozart: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. 6. Purple, Bach: Brandenburg Concerto #2. 7. Orange, Boccherini: Minuetto.

Celebration of Color5
My 5 1/2 month old son has been captivated with this video since he was 2 1/2 months old. This is the only video that he will watch through it's entirety. The video begins with brightly colored fireworks going off on a black background with classical music playing. It then moves through 6 different colors. The colors are introduced by letters spelling the color and then paint cans tip over, pouring the color onto the TV screen. Each color has a set/series of objects and shapes that begin to fill the screen and dance around to classical music. It's a must have for those collicky babies!

Response to viewer5
I just noticed the review that said that this video is not appropriate for children under three and I have to completely disagree. I have a 6 month old, a two year old and a four year old and this is the only video I have ever found (including Baby Mozart, So Smart) that all three of my kids will watch together. It is amazing. I would strongly recommend it to anyone with a child between the ages of 6 months & 4 years.

Captivating! You'll even want to watch it5
We bought this video after seeing the preview for it on the first BabyScapes (Baby's Smart Start) video. Our son was about 8 months old (which is the recommended starting age) and he loved it immediately. We have photos of him trying to catch the shapes flying about on the television screen!

This is one of those videos that lets the parent decide whether to plop the child down in front the CRT babysitter in order to get some work done (which I'll confess we've done now and again...and it will work sometimes...) or to use the video to make learning fun.

Learning in this case is about colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple and Orange. We play with blue toys during the Blue segment, red toys during the Red segment and so on. It can be fun for the adult, too. Try making up words to go along with Ode To Joy, for instance...("Birdies, birdies, see the birdies! Birdies, birdies, love to fly...")

The video begins with a nifty fireworks display and a rousing rendition of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3. Then, buckets of paint, either singly or in combination, are flung at the screen and shapes dance around to classical tunes by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms (not the Lullaby!), more Bach and Boccherini.

Overall, I prefer the BabyScapes videos to the Baby Einstein ones. Our son gets more excited about the BabyScapes videos than he does the plethora of Baby Einstein DVDs we have. The music quality is better than what you'd hear on the Baby Einstein videos/DVDs, in my opinion, and the clean, organized presentation is just easier to watch. With most of the Baby Einstein DVDs I feel like "give me some toys and a video camera and I could do this - and better"; I respect the skill and imagination of the 3D graphic artists who put together the BabyScapes videos.
