A racket of limited capabalities3
I have always held Butterfly rackets in high esteem. Returning to table tennis after a gap of a decade, I decided to try this paddle to relearn the game. But I found my old form pretty soon and found this racket lacking in firepower.

This would be a good racket to start with if you are only just learning the ropes of table tennis. However, it falls short of expectations if you are a fairly advanced casual player. For my kind of game play (a mix of aggression and defense), it is quite hard to get good smashes or drives with this paddle. It is quite good on control though (as the manufacturers claim). Spin is not quite as good.

For fast paced game play I would recommend a paddle with 2.0 mm sponge from my experience with this and other paddles.

Need to improve? Naifu is for you!5
I started playing a year ago and I've been playing with a Stiga Ultimate which has a 2.2 mm sponge. I wanted to work more on technique because I had been relying on spin too much. With the 2.2 mm sponge I was sending the ball long when I started to try looping so I figured I'd try the Naifu with the 1.5 mm sponge. It is MUCH easier to control the ball. I can give nice forehand or backhand looping stroke and keep the ball on the table. It's also easier to return a smash with the Naifu because of the thin sponge and lack of strong spin. The downside is that the spin and speed I was relying on in my offensive game to force my opponent to make a mistake is almost non-existent with the Naifu. I played with it for about 50 games and when I switched back to the 2.2 mm sponge, my game was A LOT better. Bottom line - use the Naifu to work on technique but keep your ego in check - you won't win too many matches against an experienced opponent but it definitely will help you to improve your game.

Good Starter Bat5
This is a great starter bat for recreational TT/ Ping Pong. Good design of the handle allows proper grip and improve your play. Definitely recommended for the serious amateurs over the flat no-padding paddles that sell cheaply.

Butterfly is the best there is!
