Increase milk production
As a nurse, and a new mother, I'm always on the web looking for solutions to common problems. My friend, a registered dietician, suggested Fenugreek when my baby hit a 2 month growth spurt. You take 3 capsules 3 times a day for about 3-4 days, until your urine smells like maple syrup. I noticed more fullness after about 24 hours of taking Fenugreek, and a definite increase in volume after 3 days. Usually a short course is sufficient to increase supply, but some women stay on it indefinitely.
I pump at work, and lately my supply has been dwindling- so back on the Fenugreek. For some, the natural route doesn't work. You can always have your doctor write a prescription for Reglan- it causes daytime drowsiness, but a huge and almost instant increase in milk supply. As a mom of a preemie baby that had to be fed every 3 hours my milk supply was dwindling from exhaustion. So I asked my doctor what I could do to keep from losing my supply. Because my daughter had to have a supplement added to the breast milk, I had to pump and put it in a bottle.
