Amazon.com Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description Building on the hugely popular TI-83 Plus, which is perhaps the best-selling calculator of all time, the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is completely compatible with the TI-83 family. From that well-established platform, this new model adds more speed (a processor that's 2.5 times faster), an enhanced high-contrast display (eight lines by 16 characters), changeable faceplates (silver included), and a suite of 30 Apps. And with nine times more memory than the TI-83 Plus (1.54 MB of RAM, 480 KB Flash ROM), there's plenty of room for even more Apps and your own data storage.

Includes a USB Port and cable.
It also adds USB on-the-go technology (cable included) that can be used to share files with other calculators or to connect to PCs or optional presentation tools.

Comes with 30 pre-loaded Apps and supports all TI-83 Apps.
Thirty Apps are pre-loaded. Popular App titles include Cabri Jr., CBL/CBR, Conic Graphing, Inequality Graphing, Probability Simulations, Science Tools, StudyCards, TimeSpan, Topics in Algebra 1 Chapter 5, Topics in Algebra 1 Chapters 1-4, Transformation Graphing, and more. For students in math and sciences, the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is a powerful, problem-solving tool with features for storing, graphing, and analyzing up to 10 functions. Plus, it displays graphs and evaluates tables on a split screen, allowing you to trace the graph and scroll through table values simultaneously.

Split screen lets you view a graph and its equation at the same time.
With the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, you can view an equation, its graph, and the coordinates all at one time. Jump from point to point by entering a number. Several useful plot types are available, including scatter, box-and-whisker, XY-line, histogram, and normal probability plots. Advanced statistics and regression analysis, graphical analysis, and data analysis are readily accessed, along with features for calculus, engineering, financial, logarithm, trigonometry, and hyperbolic functions--all crucial tools for advanced analysis. With its clear display and fast processing, the calculator incorporates graphing tools for mathematics and science course work, including statistics and finance.

The optional kickstand slide case is great for desktop work.
The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is powered by four AAA alkaline batteries (not included) and one silver oxide battery (included) for backup, with an automatic shutoff to save energy. It is supported by a one-year limited warranty.

Optional color faceplates add flare.

52 Year Old Rates The TI 84 SPlus5
I have owned the TI 82 and TI 83S Silver Plus before this. TheTI 84 is another wonderful product from Texas Instruments for the student in high School or College student. Any complaints about speed is irrelevant. I personally found the TI 84 very easy to read, fast, nice case-I like it better the TI 83 Silver case-and it included some programs that were not on the TI 83. It is supposed to have other stuff that the TI 83 did not have but I did not notice this. This is because I bought it to assist me in Algebra, trig and etc. For the money it is a great investment and a very useful tool. I will say that one area I noticed a great difference in was viewing the window. For me, (and I wear bi-focals) the TI 84 was noticeable in its clearer image and etc. Hope this is helpfu. -Dave

calculator is great; PC interface software disappoints3
The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is a powerful calculator with almost every function that one could desire, a powerful programming environment, and a well-organized keyboard.

On the other hand, the calculator-computer interface is slow and the PC software is limited and poorly documented. One can transfer programs from the calculator to the computer or vice versa, but this capability is not documented in the user manual. I would like to be able to edit a calculator program on the computer, but it appears that this is not possible.

I also have one complaint with the programming environment-- There should be a "break" or "done" command to exit from a loop without using a goto.

Based on my current knowledge, I would rate this product at 4 stars rather than 3 (Amazon does not permit me to change this).

Good product -a little pricy4
Got this for my son to replace a lost TI-83plus.

Some nice improvements but a much better value to get the standard edition instead of the silver edition. Silver addition provides a few additional preloaded programs and is great if you are not price sensitive.

Retailers are very competitive with the standard edition and are not discounting the silver edition as heavily.

I wasn't price sensitive so I dropped some additional cash for a slightly better product.

Recommendation: If you want bang for the buck, stick with the standard edition. If price doesn't matter, the silver edition does the trick
