![]() | Baja California by AAA
Buy used from: $1.00 The AAA Baja California Guidebook is truly the BEST guidebook you can find! It tells you highlights of each area and has suggested itineraries as well as detailed information. It is much better than other AAA guides, and more like a "Milepost" for Baja - highly recommended!

![]() | Backroad Baja: Maps, Logs, Trip Information by Tom Higginbotham

Explore some of the lonely fishing camps on the coast and winding mountain roads and you'll discover the real treasures of Baja!
|
![]() | The Rough Guide to Baja California (Rough Guide Travel Guides) by Jason Clampet
Buy new: $12.91 / Used from: $10.45 We did not have this book, but rough guides often have information on "secret" places and adventures that more conventional travel guides do not.

Buy new: $13.59 / Used from: $8.95 Lonely Planet is also a wonderful travel guide series!
|
![]() | The Log from the Sea of Cortez (Penguin Classics) by John Steinbeck
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $2.41 This is the classic work about Baja California. We read this while camping on the Sea of Cortez and having been to several points mentioned in the book. Of course, Steinbeck is a wonderful writer, and his perspectives are not dated, even though this was written years ago.
|
![]() | The Forgotten Peninsula: A Naturalist in Baja California by Joseph Wood Krutch
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $4.07 A wonderful book of Baja natural history - some of Baja hasn't changed a bit since this book was written, and some has changed dramatically. Great sense of place book. We found El Marmol because of this book, a side trip we may otherwise have not discovered.
|

![]() | Baja California Plant Field Guide by Norman Roberts
Buy new: $24.95 / Used from: $25.00 There are so many endemic (existing nowhere else naturally) species of plants in Baja, this book was wonderful to have. We learned many new species of cactus and appreciation for trees and shrubs that otherwise may have slipped our notice. Boojum, Cardon, and Zalate, oh my!
|
![]() | Diving & Snorkeling Baja California: Includes the Pacific Coast, Sea of Cortez & the Islas De Revillagigedo (Lonely Planet) by Walt Peterson
Buy used from: $3.84 We didn't get this book - in fact, we missed snorkeling entirely because we got down a bit late in the season and the beautiful places we wanted to snorkel were crawling with stingrays! So we kayaked instead - the water is so clear, we could look down and see all the colorful fish (and sting rays) we would have seen while snorkeling. Next time, we'll get there earlier and snorkel, too!

Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $5.33 Whales are such a magical part of the Baja experience! Do get out in the lagoons, go kayaking on the Sea of Cortez, take a boat trip to one of the islands - the sea and its inhabitants are half of what make Baja California a unique and wonderful place.
|
![]() | Saving the Gray Whale: People, Politics, and Conservation in Baja California (Society, Environment, and Place) by Serge Dedina
Buy new: $19.95 / Used from: $2.50 The history of the gray whale in Baja is a fascinating one. Go to the Malarrimo restaurant/bar in Guerrero Negro to see some interesting artifacts - and definitely go to Ojo de Liebre Lagoon (aka Scammon's Lagoon, after the whaler that nearly wiped out its whales) to see whales and check out their new museum! Also San Ignacio Lagoon, and more.

|
![]() | Baja California: vanished missions, lost treasures, strange stories true and tall by Choral Pepper
Buy used from: $10.00 I haven't seen this book before, but the "lost" (and not so lost) missions of Baja are fascinating side trips. Mision San Javier was one of my favorite places - so beautiful! And a hike or bike down the wash from Catavina is a beautiful lost mission.

|
![]() | Dust to Glory
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $3.75 This is a fun DVD - Dana Brown has succeeded in creating a documentary as fun as those of his father, Bruce Brown. The Baja 1000 has shaped the Baja California you'll see today. Many small restaurants along the road become pit stops and check points during the race. Stop in at Mama Espinoza's in El Rosario to see some memorabilia and posters - they are always a check point.
