The AAA Baja California Guidebook is truly the BEST guidebook you can find! It tells you highlights of each area and has suggested itineraries as well as detailed information. It is much better than other AAA guides, and more like a "Milepost" for Baja - highly recommended!

Another useful camping guide - not as personal as the Church's guide, but also good.

We purchased this book in Loreto, on our way back, so didn't get a chance to explore some of these back roads - next time!!

We did not have this book, but rough guides often have information on "secret" places and adventures that more conventional travel guides do not.

This is the classic work about Baja California. We read this while camping on the Sea of Cortez and having been to several points mentioned in the book. Of course, Steinbeck is a wonderful writer, and his perspectives are not dated, even though this was written years ago.

A well-written account of Baja past and present, a philosophical look at changes, and an appreciation of culture and nature.

We didn't get this book - in fact, we missed snorkeling entirely because we got down a bit late in the season and the beautiful places we wanted to snorkel were crawling with stingrays! So we kayaked instead - the water is so clear, we could look down and see all the colorful fish (and sting rays) we would have seen while snorkeling. Next time, we'll get there earlier and snorkel, too!

Get some field guides to appreciate what you see or what you catch!

Whales are such a magical part of the Baja experience! Do get out in the lagoons, go kayaking on the Sea of Cortez, take a boat trip to one of the islands - the sea and its inhabitants are half of what make Baja California a unique and wonderful place.

There are so many shells on some of the beaches! Know what you are collecting.

Get a bird guide of some sort - there are great birds in Baja, from Frigatebirds, Pelicans and Osprey performing their aerial ballets over sparkling bays, to hummingbirds, woodpeckers, flycatchers, and a great variety of hawks and other birds of prey, such as the Crested Caracara.

This is a fun DVD - Dana Brown has succeeded in creating a documentary as fun as those of his father, Bruce Brown. The Baja 1000 has shaped the Baja California you'll see today. Many small restaurants along the road become pit stops and check points during the race. Stop in at Mama Espinoza's in El Rosario to see some memorabilia and posters - they are always a check point.
