Delicious, Practical and Beautiful
I admit that I have a sweet tooth and that I consider myself a brownie afficionado. Over the years I've collected dozens of recipes and I have my favorites. So I approached Liz Franklin's "Brownies and Bars" with some skepticism. I first tried three of the brownie recipes - "Cherry, Chocolate and Kahl?a Brownies," "Cardamom and Orange Brownies," and the "Orange Marmalade and Chestnut Brownies," and they turned out perfect! Then I turned my attention to the non-brownie recipes: they are creative and diverse-- and the two others that I tried were just as good as the brownie recipes. Their directions were easy to follow; the photography was helpful and beautiful. Can't wait to try more recipes.
Great book, but a bit tricky.
This is a lovely cookbook with a lot of great recipes for brownies and squares. It was written by an English author, Liz Franklin, using traditional British ingredients and pan sizes which I had some difficulty finding (e.g., caster sugar, golden syrup, Anzac biscuits). But the end products made the extra effort worthwhile. I am quite pleased with the book, and use I it regularly. The photos are excellent, and the instructions are clear.
could have been easier if cups instead of oz
the pics and recipes were really great; however, it would have been easier if the measurements were offered in cups and tbs/tsp instead of oz, but after conversion, the end products were great .. more than great ..
