Album Description
When it comes to making music, Shelby (lead vocals & guitar), Katie (guitar & vocals), Shae (lead guitar), Sophia (bass) and Kate (drums), are a wrecking crew unto themselves. In songs like, "Don't Rain On My Parade," "Saturdays Sundays," and "BFF" they sing of the world they know: boys, dating, texting, playing and partying. Yet they also bring a surprising measure of depth, with songs like "Don't Come Crying" and "Every Time You Go."
From the Artist
Says lead singer Shelby, "Being all girl, all teen, we're usually pre-judged. People don't expect that much, but we usually convince the audience that we're a legit rock band, not just a `chick band.'"
About the Artist
The Runaways, The Go-Go's and The Bangles...these cutting edge all-girl groups had a profound influence on what made a rock band and who could play in one. KSM may not be the first all-girl rock band- but they are a force that will definitely fit in the same conversation as many of the iconic female bands before them. They are young and talented beyond their years with no pretense -- and they know how to rock.
KSM...five girls taking music into their own hands and ready to show their generation what girl power is all about.
Customer Reviews
Now playing in a parking lot near you
KSM is a chick band that plays catchy hard rock songs, and they're just about what you'd expect. Nothing deep or meaningful, like Monday being their least favorite day takes up a song (seems familiar). On the other hand, for their genre they're not too bad, good melodies, appropriately wise ass trashy vocals and a generally obnoxious "who says girls can't play guitars" 'tude. So you're asking, okay, how are they different from all the previous girl bands? Well, their website has an answer, "They're younger, looser and they rock so much harder." Right. Looser.
You can catch them tomorrow at the Lancaster Wal-Mart parking lot (I did not make that up), but things are looking up for them, a TV gig and a tour as a backup are coming this fall. Is there any reason you should care about any of this? Not if you're an adult, I'd say check back in ten years or so, after some drugs, failed romances and a band breakup or two, because there is some talent here, and perhaps someday some serious music could result. For now it's purely teeny party fodder.
