From the Manufacturer
The Mission Traditional Crib in the cherry finish combines a clean and simple styling with an open design and contemporary look. This style is combined with the ultimate in functionality and safety. The Mission Traditional Crib has a single knee-release drop side, making it easy to lay baby down or pick him or her up. It has a sturdy spring deck to support a standard sized crib mattress (sold separately). The mattress height is adjustable. The construction is sturdy with hardwood veneers. Most importantly, it complies with the Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association Certification Progam and ASTM safety standards. The series coordinates with other Bassettbaby Mission style furniture items (sold separately).

Tricky instructions but great looking crib
After reading many of the reviews here, my husband and I went to our local store and were lucky enough to find the crib and tall dresser in stock - and on sale at the closeout price. My husband put the crib together with a little bit of guesswork on his part and some input from me based on the way I had seen cribs assembled on display. I don't understand one of the reviews complaining about a problem with the headboard/footboard. There is no difference in the two sides. Another review complained about a difficult release mechanism. This crib has the standard knee release that most new cribs now come with. HOWEVER, it is very easy to install the knee drop release railing backwards (it snaps in easily and appears correct but will not work properly this way). After some head scratching, we figured out that it was in backwards, turned it around, and it works perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this crib. The matching 5-drawer dresser also looks very nice.
Struck out on getting this crib undamaged
We ordered this crib in early July during the sale because it matched a Bassett chest and changing table we had been given by relatives. Also, Bassett cribs are rated pretty highly in Baby Bargains.
The first shipment had gaping holes in the box and pieces of the crib were removable through these holes (one of the tops of an end piece had become unglued and was easily removed from the box). We had that one returned and waited for the second one. Shipment #2 was not as beaten up as the first, but there were still big holes in the box and some of the wood was damaged (could be seen through these holes). Target at first told me they could not re-ship a third one for the same reason (that the item must be unshippable), but then they offered to ship a third crib to see if we could piece together an undamaged crib from the last two shipments. Well, we were excited when the third shipment arrived on July 31 in an intact box with apparently no damage. Once the box was opened, however, we realized that much of the damage was coming from Bassett and not being done during shipping. Of the crib we pieced together, there are substantial dings/scratches/dents on three of the four ends on the tops of the end posts. There are also a couple of other minor indentions on parts that will be visible (not against the wall or floor). We decided to keep this crib anyway because we are about 12 weeks away from delivery and really need to finish the nursery. I don't have time now to shop around more, and we are hopeful that we can sand and fill some of these places to make them less noticable.
Needless to say, if I had more time, I would ship these two remaining cribs back and go with something else. The great buy is not worth getting something that has more damage than any floor models you see at baby stores. I did give it two stars for the price and the beautiful shade of stain.
Great product, Bad Instructions
The crib, once we got it together, is very nice and quite sturdy. It was also a great value as we got it on sale. The only downside to this product are the instructions or the lack of them. It took my engineer husband an hour and a half to put the crib together based on the instructions that came with the product. If you're not an engineer or a rocket scientist, make sure to leave plenty of time to figure out how to put this crib together. Otheriwse, it's a great product.
