A better option but there's still some scary moments -- the Two Face and Clayface episodes stand out -- so parents need to preview the episodes first.

The addition of Robin in Volume Two helps lighten the atmosphere in the animated series. That's a bonus for young fans. The Joker Fish in episode "The Laughing Fish" is sure to elicit giggles.

This series is more kid friendly and less dark than Batman, The Animated Series. A Saturday morning cartoon, this series' Batman is a clear role model and his youthful appearance is a big change from previous versions.

The positives: Robin and Batgirl interact; there's a funny Penguin episode; and a great two-part story with the Martian Manhunter. The negatives: darker episodes, beware the zombies in "Strange New World." The episode bothered my 5-year old and 4-year old. We had to talk through the ending, where the zombies are "healed."

Hello, Superman, Flash, Green Arrow and Green Lantern! Again, young kids are going to love this series. You get to introduce your young boy to classic superheros without all of the brooding and darkness that has dominated comic books over the past two decades.

DK Readers has a great series of educational books that feature a superhero from the Justice League of America to teach history, science and math. I've mixed this into our bedtime reading. I skim past the topics that are too difficult for my young sons to grasp but there's still much to share. This book is good for older kids, too.

This is the perfect Batman origin story for little boys. It doesn't show the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents but makes it clear that Alfred is caring for him.
