Product Description

The Beagle, though one of the smallest members of the hound family, is a giant in terms of affection, enthusiasm, and general amiability. A gentle house pet, it is wonderful with children. Here is the Beagle’s history, as well as a detailed description of its traits, and advice on its training and care. Books in this handsomely produced series are written especially for new and soon-to-be pet owners. Most volumes, filled with striking color illustrations, give in-depth presentations of the needs and traits of specific dog breeds. Starting this season,Living With a Pet books are expanding to include other animals that have become popular as house pets. Before acquiring a pet, potential buyers need to know: Is the animal good with children? Which dog breeds make good hunters, guard dogs, or farm dogs? Which animals make ideal apartment pets? Each title in this series gives readers a detailed understanding of the animal’s daily needs, special abilities, physical traits, temperament, susceptibility to health problems, and the many other details prospective owners need to know before acquiring a pet. All Living With a Pet titles are hardcover editions with jackets, and all have color photos on every two-page spread. Interesting sidebars appear throughout the text.

Now Comes with Bonus DVD at No Added Cost!

The brand-new hour-long dog training instruction program is specially designed to help dog owners who have little or no experience in obedience training.

Want to find out what it’s really like to own a Beagle? It’s all here in Living With A Beagle, a dog book with a difference. As well as providing the best practical advice on all aspects of Beagle care and training, this book recounts owners’ special stories of the love and companionship that comes from living with this wonderful breed.

Living With A Beagle
is illustrated throughout with stunning photography.

Cheerful, lively, and loyal are just some of the adjectives that sum up the Beagle’s character. This is a dog that has it all—handy in size, easy to care for, intelligent, and fun to be with. Once you have owned a Beagle you will never want to be without one.

Living With A Beagle traces the history of the breed from the days when it was used for tracking hare with huntsmen on foot, to its present-day status as a popular pet dog and successful competitor in the show ring.

Advice tailored specifically to the Beagle covers a wide variety of topics, including feeding (from puppyhood to adulthood), grooming, exercise, and general care.

The Beagle is well known for its independent spirit, and recommended training exercises will help you to get the best from your dog. If you want to be inspired, look at the chapter, Broadening Horizons, which tells the stories of Beagles competing in Obedience, Agility, and Flyball, and describes those that do valuable therapy work.

If you are interested in the working side of the breed, you’ll find information on how to get started in Field Trials and Drag Hunting.

Finally, distinguished veterinarian Trevor Turner writes on the health of the breed. As well as covering breed-prone conditions and first aid, he outlines a comprehensive program of health care to ensure that your Beagle stays as fit and healthy as possible throughout his life.

Sylvia has judged Beagles at home and abroad. She was the secretary (and later Vice President) of Turnbridge Wells & District Canine Society, and for many years, also Vice President of the Beagle Association. Everything Beagle5
This is a Great book about Beagles. It is not just another dog book. I adopted a beagle mix 8 months ago and I wish that I read this book before. It perfectly describes every aspect of a Beagle's life.

It even includes some (though limited) information about Health Care issues. The only thing it missed is how to deal with the occasional "Reverse Sneeze" attack.

It includes a Training DVD that will give you pointers on dealing with Beagle issues.

It is a great Book for anyone who is thinking of getting or owns a Beagle. It is a quick read (128 pages) and a good Beagle reference book.

Sniffing Down the Beagle Trail & Barking Up the Right Tree5
This is an excellent book about beagles by someone who has been directly involved with the breed for many years. Since this author is also a veterinarian, this book is written with professional acuity. Breeders especially will love this book as it gives good practical advice on breeding their hounds and finding others who do.

Good general care such as vaccinations and regular checkups is included. I recommend this book for anybody who owns this delightful breed. I love beagles!
