![]() | The Commitments: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.19 The Story of An Irish Soul Band, this movie was fun, but the music was spectacular. The Gravelly voice of the lead singer was enough to make your toes wiggle, and your thighs clench. According to my itunes I have listened to this more than the majority of my other music.
![]() | Amelie: Original Soundtrack Recording
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $7.93 While we tend to associate it with Polka music and Weird Al Yankovic, the accordion makes a rich sensual sound that personifies French music. It is perfect backround music for almost all work and play. The movie is awesome too.
![]() | American Mcgee's Alice (Score)
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $9.52 This is actually the score of a video game, of which I have never played. But the score is melodic and creepy, bringing to mind a gothic playground.
![]() | Batman Beyond (1999 Animated Television Series) by Shirley Walker
Buy used from: $13.99 The score of the sadly short lived, futuristic cartoon "Batman Beyond" Is Metalesque, Futureesque, and Pulsing-esque? If you listen to it in your car you can imagine you are drag racing in some sort of Blade Runneresque nighmare world. Esque!
![]() | Rent (1996 Original Broadway Cast) by Jeff Potter
Buy new: $29.49 / Used from: $5.68 Ok, I am including Broadway soundtracks and scores in this list too, And Rent, if a bit heavy handed with the story line, has some great music. Theatrical with great Lyrics and Punch, the Songs are exactly what a Rock opera should be.
![]() | Blade Runner
Buy new: $13.96 / Used from: $2.44 Blade Runner is a sci-fi noir piece of a distopian society of the future. The score has a lot of synthasized sound that was popular in the eighties, but in this case very much serves the music and the movie, creating a lost, romantic, dangerous sound.
![]() | The Bourne Ultimatum
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $7.49 This Score is brilliantly tense. The sound invokes the feeling of being chased. It completely made the movie.
![]() | Carousel (1956 Film Soundtrack) by Shirley Jones
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $7.57 Of all the Rodgers and Hammerstien I watched as a kit, Carousel is the one that stood the test of time and critical eye of adulthood.
![]() | Cleveland Rocks! Music From The Drew Carey Show by Drew Carey
Buy used from: $1.55 This Soundtrack never takes a wrong step, all the songs are good classic rock types that get you moving. Perfect for a road trip.
![]() | Cowboy Bebop by Various
Buy new: $43.99 / Used from: $27.98 Another Futuristic Noir Soundtrack/Score. Has the punch and unabashedly commits to it's sound in the way only Anime can. But don't be fooled by the cartoon cover. This can stand up to any of my Tarantino Soundtracks
![]() | Kill Bill: Volume 1
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.45 This Soundtrack stands out in my collection for having enough variety and penache to never get old. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" "Twisted Nerve" and Nancy Sinatra's haunting "Bang Bang" made me run out and get this the minute the show was over.
![]() | Kill Bill: Volume 2
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $0.96 This soundtrack is not as good overall as the first, but a couple truly great songs make it more than worth it. Like the second half of the movie it'self, it took a second listen to appreciate it, but the subtleties made it well worth it.
![]() | The Craft: Music From The Motion Picture
Buy used from: $1.20 Heh, brings me back to when I was 14 years old and I made my dad rent this movie 5 different times. The sound track is actually pretty damn good. The first four tracks are in fact my favorite, with their angsty witchy rock sounds. But it holds it's own throughout the CD.
![]() | Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000 Film) by Tan Dun
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.27 This sounds as mythically romantic as the movie itself was.
![]() | Hairspray (Soundtrack to the Motion Picture)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $3.21 The movie soundtrack has several very good songs, that the show did not hav, like "New Girl in Town""Lady's Choice" and "So far to Go" On the other hand Queen Latifa, did not justice to the amazing "I know Where I've Been" which is better on the broadway soundtrack.
![]() | A Very Long Engagement
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $0.60 Ominous, Foreboding, Nastolgic. Sepia Toned. It is a even and wicked score that sort of follows you.
![]() | Veronica Mars by Original TV Soundtrack
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $6.00 Best. Show. Ever. I wish I could say the same for the soundtrack, but it will have to be satisfied by Pretty. Darn. Good. "We Used to be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols and "I hear the Bells" by Mike Doughty are my favorites
![]() | Stick It
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $4.84 Stick It was a great movie because it was a teen flick without a love interest, which means it defied the conventions of teen movie asshatery which they are so suseptable. The soundtrack does the same thing, it has punch and pop without being obnoxious.
![]() | Spring Awakening (2006 Original Broadway Cast) by Duncan Sheik
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.76 This is one of the my Soundtracks where the more I listen too it, the more I enjoy it, finding nuances here and there that I had not previously heard. I have seen the show, but the music is almost better than the show. It is rock/folk/punk/broadway, and it is fantastic.
![]() | Spirited Away by Joe Hisaishi
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.98 My favorite movie and my second favorite score. Absolutly amazing. It is fairy tail like but quirky and interesting. I love this score so much, that when I am having an anxiety attack, it soothes me immediatly.
![]() | Diva (1981 Film) by Vladimir Cosma
Buy used from: $7.78 Another weird french film with some great music. 'La Wally' is an overwhelming expierence. You can do what I did though, and download it from 'The European Film Music Collection' on itunes. But worth its weight in gold.
![]() | Shrek - Music From the Original Motion Picture
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.45 Ok, there is an odd assortment of songs in this and they are not all works of brilliance. But Rufus Wainwright's Hallelujah is sorrowful and rapturous. The rest is poppy rock that is also fairly good.
![]() | Shrek 2
Buy used from: $1.54 There are 2 versions of the great "Holding out for a Hero" and both are great and worth getting the album for. 'Changes' and the 'Fairy Godmother Song' are both silly good fun.
![]() | The Secret Of Roan Inish: A New Film By John Sayles
Buy used from: $14.69 Worth renting or buying if you have not already seen it. But the score takes the cake, "The Roan Inish" Theme is lovely, and shows that there is more to Irish music than Flogging Molly and Drinking songs.
![]() | The Scarlet Pimpernel: The New Musical Adventure - Original Broadway Cast Recording
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $3.75 The Scarlet Pimpernel is another musical that did not live that long, but I have no idea why. It had swashbuckeling, cross dressing and great music. I remember laughing so hard my stomach hurt.
![]() | William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet: Music From The Motion Picture (1996 Version) [Enhanced CD]
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $0.01 This movie put Baz Lurman up with Tarantino and Burton when it came to great theatrical stylized movies. Strictly Ballroom was a great movie, but a dull soundtrack, but this one takes the cake. It is harsh wild fun, with lighter slower end pieces.
![]() | William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet: Music From The Motion Picture, Volume 2 (1996 Version) by Various Artists
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $0.90 It is all instrumental with bits of shakespearian diolouge messed in there. Romantic, loud overwrought, styleized, this untraditional score very much makes itself known rather than being content to be backround music.
![]() | Finding Nemo by Thomas Newman
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $5.57 'Wow' and 'Main Title: Nemo egg' are amazing aquatic lullubies. I found myself making a mix where I took out the parts that followed the more hectic and exiting parts of the movie and just listening to the soothing beauty of the other parts. Beyond the Sea is a nice mellow number at the end. Absolutely Perfect.
![]() | Hilary And Jackie: Music From The Motion Picture
Buy used from: $2.94 Hilary du Pre gained fame as a brilliant Cellist and eventually died of MS, but not before the dimentia ruins her relationship with her sister. The music is strong and sexy. Though, isn't all cello music?
![]() | Music From the Motion Picture Josie And The Pussycats by Various Artists
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.73 Like Spice Girls of Mika, great pop has no irony or self awareness to ruin the fun, just complete thrusting earnestness. Like the Commitments, Josie and the Pussycats is about a mythical band. It's all purple lepord print and 16-year old additude, just like it should be.
![]() | Juno by Original Soundtrack
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.99 Quirky without being painful, the songs are unexpected. Michael Cera and Ellen Page's cover of the Moldy Peaches "All I want is you" Is sweet without sacchrine. And Barry Louis Polistar's "All I want is You" is bouncy bluegrass goodness. And all thoes songs by Kimya Dawson in the middle are pretty great too.
![]() | Labyrinth: From The Original Soundtrack Of The Jim Henson Film by David Bowie
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.87 Hot David Bowie in glitter and poet shirt being a sexy elvin king while singing sexy fairy tale lullubies at you. Yum.
![]() | Pan's Labyrinth
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.99 The Score is dark magic, just like the movie. But the lilting humming tune that opens like a dark childhood missive, makes frission go down my back every time,
![]() | The Chorus (Les Choristes) by Bruno Coulais
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.35 This movie makes me understand the value of Castrados in Renissance times. Voices of Angels. And unlike most child choirs, the music itself is lovely without being saccrine.
![]() | A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.50 Another Great Score. Particularly special for its combination of indian and anglo sounds. Reminicent of chamber music and lullubies. Excellent. Buy it now.
![]() | The Lost Boys: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.46 Heh, A Vampire classic with not one but two Coreys in it. Eighties meets Vampire music with great songs like "People are Strange" and "Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me"
![]() | Moulin Rouge by Various Artists
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.24 I love Musicals, I love Paris, I love Period Pieces, and I love Covers. Moulin Rouge could not go wrong for me.
![]() | Moulin Rouge 2
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $2.94 The second album is not strong enough to stand on it's own like Romeo and Juliet2, but it does have several songs that the first album missed, like "Meet Me In the Red Room" and a great cover of Queen's "The Show Must Go on"
![]() | The NeverEnding Story
Buy new: $8.94 / Used from: $5.42 Another 80s film that usessynthesized music to it's aid rather than to it's detrament. The sound is other worldly rather than sounding false, and has unexpected complexity. I sort of feel I am not doing it justice in this description. It really is special.
![]() | Ocean's Thirteen by David Holmes
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.44 Cool and Stylish, just like the movies. This score makes you feel like you are stylish and clever thief, ready to outwit everyone. They are Sharp, like a new suit on George Cloony
