Product Description

Don't Be Intimidated by Grain!

All grain brewing can be an intimidating process. There are new procedures to master, new terms to learn, and new pieces of equipment to buy or build. But all grain brewing is like a lot of things - it's easier once you know how to do it, and this video will show you how.

In this DVD, James Spencer, award-winning brewer and host of the Basic Brewing Radio and Basic Brewing Video podcasts, teams with fellow brewer Steve Wilkes. James and Steve take you through the stages of all grain brewing from milling the grain to collecting the wort. They'll show you what equipment you need and how to use it.

This video is designed to be used by brewers who already know how to brew using extracts, but those who are new to brewing will learn a lot, too.

Innovative Non-linear DVD Navigation

This DVD uses a non-linear approach, enabling you to choose between infusion mashing or step mashing and then batch sparging or continuous sparging. You get to chart your own course through the video. Of course, you can use the chapter list at any time to go back to any section you want to see again.

Editorial Reviews

From the Actor
We've worked with other experienced brewers to make this DVD accurate and understandable. We've also conducted a pre-release feedback period with our podcast listeners to collect their feedback and make refinements to the content. The result is a very easy way to make the step into all grain brewing and to enjoy the control that this process allows. We appreciate the help of everyone involved along the way. Happy brewing! - James Spencer

Customer Reviews

Great for the visual information5
Being an extract brewer looking to expand my operation into the all grain venue I found this video very beneficial. I can read Papazian's book over and over and still have a few questions here and there. It's nice to have a visualization to what is actually going on during the process. It's also great to see first-hand how much equipment you DON'T need to brew all grain. When you see some of the homebrew systems people have and think that it'll cost you a small fortune to break into all grain it's easy to get overwhelmed. This video is in no way a stand alone item-and it doesn't try to be. Be sure to supplement this with a resource text (such as Joy of Homebrewing). Great job James and Steve!

A great DVD, once again5
Once again, James and Steve have done it. After watching their first DVD and brewing a few batches of extract, I decided to tackle this DVD and see what the next level was. This is a great DVD for many reasons, but most of all the user control. At two points in the DVD, the viewer is given options of which method to use. This is great because not only do you get multiple methods on one DVD, but also you get to choose which method fits to your situation and equipment the best. The guys once again do a great job of explaining each step and showing the process as they are explaining it. This DVD is a great resource for anyone looking to "step into all-grain" brewing.

The Next Step Up5
If you are thinking about taking the leap into all-grain brewing, this DVD provides pretty much all you need (except the gear) to get started. The authors cover single and multiple step mashing, sparging methods, and even talk a little about the different approaches to mashing and lautering.
